Easter Island may not be the first place you would look for a lesson for how to survive the inevitable crowding of the world, but it probably is the best answer we have. At first glance, the tiny Chilean dependency may seem irrelivent, given it's position in the South Pacific Ocean, and being the second most isolated island group in the world (behind only Bouvet Island), but the island of 5,000's history may have the key to how to avoid a global disaster.

The little island was first discovered around 400 AD by the Polynesians, who came probably from Tahiti and modern day Samoa. These people were very intelligent, and brought with them a political system, arts and crafts and building skills.
