Vera Ellen Wang
Vera Wang was born on June 27,1949 in New York. Wang is an American fashion designer. Wang is known for her iconic signature collection of wedding gowns. She was also senior fashion editor at Vouge for 15 years before she was a design director at Ralph Lauren to finally opening her own bridal boutique and launching her iconic collections.
Early Life
Wang was born on June 27,1949 and was born to influent Chinese immigrants. Even though her parents where from Shanghai Wang was much raised in the United States. Wang graduated in 1971 from Sarah Lawrence College where she received a degree in art history. In 1898 Wang married a wealthy stock broker named Arthur Becker and from that marriage came two daughters which where adopted named Cecilia and Josephine. After 23 years of marriage they both decided to call it quits but still remain good friends.
Work and Fashion
As mentioned earlier Wang worked for Vogue for over 15 years but left the company in 1987 after they failed to promote her and she took on a job at Ralph Lauren as design director. In the year of 1989 Wang married Arthur Becker and designed her very own dress gown. After a few years with the help of her father Wang was able to open up her own bridal boutique.
Wang was able to provide service to Carolina Herrera and Christian Dior who are also well known designers. In 2019 Wang had been presenting her new collections through films but that all changed in September 10,2019. Wang's evening gowns have been worn by many stars at many red carpet-events including Viola Davis at the 2021 academy awards and Sofia Vergara at the 65th Emmy Awards.
Achievements/Awards
In 1994 Wang was recognized for her hand beaded design for figure skater Nancy Kerrigan. In the year of 2001 Wang launched her first ever perfume and expanded her business into lingerie, jewelry and deserts.In 2005 Wang won the Council of Fashion Designers of America award. In the year of 2006 wang wanted her pieces to be in everyones homes so she teamed up with Kohl's and created a new line called" simply vera",She also was awarded the André Leoń Talley lifetime achievement award from the Savannah College of Art. In 2013 she was awarded the Council off Fashion Designer of America award once again. In 2018 Wang placed 34th on Forbes list of America's Richest Self-Made Women. She celebrated 30 years in business in the year of 2019 and a month later in October she debate her 60th bridal collection. In 2020 Wang returned to the New York Fashion Week runaway with her Spring/Summer collection. In 2020 Wang's clothing was described as "Beautifully" designed clothes by Bridget Foley.
