The Yamaha U1 is an 88-key upright piano made by the Yamaha Corporation. It has a spruce soundboard and hard maple bridge and pinblock. It weighs 502 pounds and has a mute pedal. [1] The range is from A0 to C8. The U1 has an SG type silent piano system (mute pedal). From left to right the pedals are: soft pedal; mute pedal; sustain pedal. [2]

The idea of the mute pedal is for quieter private practice, as well as for beginner players. One drawback to it, though, is that it makes the keys significantly more difficult to press down, which may become tiring or even detrimental to your hands and wrists; similar to the stress caused by computer keyboards.
