JOHN OKELLO[edit]

John Gideon Okello was a Ugandan revolutionary[1] and the leader of the Zanzibar Revolution in 1964.This revolution over threw sultan Jamshid bin Abdullah and led to the proclamation of Zanzibar as a republic.[2]It was true that he led to rise of Zanzibar revolution. He just led to it's dawn fall

BIOGRAPHY[edit]

He was a born of Lango District in what was the Uganda protectorate .When he was 15 ,he left and set out on his own and found work on different places within British East Africa[3]. At various times ,Okello was a clerk, gardener and did-jobs as he drifted around British East Africa, living at various times in Uganda, Kenya and Tanganyika[4].

He later went through training to become a bricklayer. He was arrested in Nairobi, Kenya on allegations of rape and was incarcerated for two years, an experience that left him with an intense Anglophobia Okello joined the Afro-Shirazi party of Sheikh Abeid Karume This party opposed the dominant position of the majority Arabs on the island of Zanzibar and Pemba [5]
