Daddy Issues is the unreleased debut studio album by American rapper and singer Brooke Candy. Originally titled Freaky Princess, it was scheduled to be released sometime during 2016.[1] After two years working on it, Candy stated that she considers the record finished.[2] It was set to be released in spring 2017,[3] now it's unknow if it will be even released after some declarations that Candy made in an interview she had with magazine Bullett.[4]

Background[edit]

Candy's debut album, called Daddy Issues, is currently being produced by label-mate Sia amongst others. Sia, who is an executive producer and a songwriter on the album, discovered Candy on Instagram and reached out to her, believing “that I was the only person who could really support [Candy] in becoming who [she is] on a grander stage or platform.”[5]

So far, Sia has written at least two songs for Candy's upcoming album, one being the single "Living Out Loud"[5] which features Sia herself, and another Cher-inspired record.[2] Other collaborators include Greg Kurstin, Jack Antonoff[6] and Matthew Koma.[2]

Singles[edit]

A song called "Rubber Band Stacks" was released as a single. The music video, directed by Cody Critcheloe[7] and styled by Nicola Formichetti, was premiered on August 17, 2015,[8][9] but it won't make the final cut to the album.[10] It was released on August 13, 2015 followed by its music video on August 18. The song is featured on the Madden NFL 16 video game.[11]

To anticipate her upcoming album, Candy released some buzz singles. On January 29, 2016; she released the first one titled "Happy Days".[12] On February 4, 2016 its video also styled by Formichetti and directed by Renata Raksha was premiered on Nylon,[13] and was later uploaded to VEVO. On May 13 she released the second, "Changes", to promote her second makeup line.[14] It was followed on June 2 by the third promotional song "Nasty" along with its music video, directed by Rankin and co-styled by Candy herself. It was premiered via Hunger TV.[15] A month later, on July 7, the track "Paper or Plastic" was released as the fourth.[16] The music video, directed by Darren Craig, premiered a week later.[17][18][19]

On December 16, 2016 Candy released a KDA remix of the previously unreleased song "Living Out Loud" which featured Sia.[20][21] The original and proper version of the song was released on February 3, 2017 as Daddy Issues lead single.[22][23][24]

Not Pushing Daisies is the debut album by Swedish singer Ängie and American producer Harrison First. It was released on June 5, 2020 via First's own JNRY FIRST and distributed through AWAL. It was preceded by the three-track EP Each Other, which included "Bambam" as the main track and "Silver Sadness", released on May 29, 2020 as the lead single.

Background and promotion[edit]

Ängie and Harrison First meet in Summer 2019 when First DM-ed her to join him on a session after the artist he has working with didn't show up. They felt a strong working chemistry and started working on their first collaborative EP Each Other, released on June 4, 2020.[26] After its success, they decided to make more music. They started working on the album later on and plan to release more music together in the future.[27] The three tracks on the previous EP were included. A music video for the single "Bambam",[28] co-directed by Ängie and frequent collaborator Christofer Nilsson premiered via Gaffa on June 20, 2019.[26] "Silver Sadness" served as the lead single and was released on May 29, 2020 along its music video, directed by Ängie herself and premiered a day before via Independent Music News.[29] A music video for the track "Basic" was unveiled on the album's release date. It was directed by Jean-Luc Mwepu and co-directed by Ängie.[30]

Composition[edit]

Harrison First commented in an interview with TEEZ' FM about the album's musical style, saying that it started as a mainly guitar-sounding project that morphed into something different. Also explained that the album was named Not Pushing Daisies as an ode to Ängie's debut EP Suicidal Since 1995 and that the title means she's not suicidal anymore. He also told that "Basic" was about "people that want to be around you only because of success" and that personally, "Talk to Me Nice" was his favorite song at the moment.[27]
