Arabic wikipedia[edit]

Hi Alnokta and welcome to wiikipedia. IMHO, it is not just about knowing Arabic, it is also about understanding how to write for an encyclopedia. My short experience in the Arabic wikipedia wasn't a delightful one. The problem as i see it, is that Arabic wikipedia is too Arabic :) Of course this was some time ago and i was new then but i felt the standards are too low. I remember i commented on an article, a biography of a famous scientist which was copied and pasted from another website. The only reply i got -by an experienced user - was that copyright isn't really important because this was a biography!! Biographies were full of bias, mostly written by advocates and it seemed nobody really cared about neutrality. Besides, writing scientific articles in Arabic is an extremely difficult job. Arabization of science seems much beyond the scope of wikipedia. Cheers:)--Wedian 20:33, 1 December 2006 (UTC)

Hi again Alnokta. Sorry for the late reply. I 'm certainly impressed by your enthausiasm for the Arabic wikipedia. I don't have much time now but i do promise to take another look there ASAP. Thanks.--Wedian 20:36, 19 December 2006 (UTC)

Vitamin A[edit]

Please stop changing the English links on other-language wikipedias pointed to from Vitamin A. These should point to Vitamin A and not to Retinol. --Trovatore 04:03, 2 January 2007 (UTC)

I've responded to your comments on my talk page. --Trovatore 21:29, 4 January 2007 (UTC)

your edit to phosphoric acid[edit]

Please avoid using abusive edit summaries as per Wikipedia:Civility and Wikipedia:No personal attacks. Thanks and happy editing. --Dirk Beetstra T C 16:49, 7 January 2007 (UTC)

Hydrochloric acid[edit]

I'm sorry, but per wp:mos, pages should only be linked once. All the links you added are already way earlier in the document (hydrogen, chlorine and hydrochloric acid are already linked in the introduction), and they are also there surrounding the equation. Now I do confess, it could be a bit clearer that H2 = hydrogen etc., but your version added even more links to the same page. And for discussing changes or reversions, no, I don't have to discuss them, I only discuss if I don't know if what I am doing is correct, and otherwise my explanation is in my edit summary. --Dirk Beetstra T C 10:45, 13 January 2007 (UTC)

This is a automated to all bot operators[edit]

Automated message to bot owners[edit]

As a result of discussion on the village pump and mailing list, bots are now allowed to edit up to 15 times per minute. The following is the new text regarding bot edit rates from Wikipedia:Bot Policy:

Until new bots are accepted they should wait 30-60 seconds between edits, so as to not clog the recent changes list and user watchlists. After being accepted and a bureaucrat has marked them as a bot, they can edit at a much faster pace. Bots doing non-urgent tasks should edit approximately once every ten seconds, while bots who would benefit from faster editing may edit approximately once every every four seconds.

Also, to eliminate the need to spam the bot talk pages, please add Wikipedia:Bot owners' noticeboard to your watchlist. Future messages which affect bot owners will be posted there. Thank you. --Mets501 00:00, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

Re: Wherebot[edit]

Certainly. I will post the bot code and instructions for adapting it later today (in UTC days :) ). Sorry for the delay. -- Where 03:38, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

Okay, I put the source on User:Wherebot/Source. If you need any help, please do not hesitate to contact me and I will try to help ASAP. -- Where 17:10, 5 March 2007 (UTC)
Not a problem at all :). I will take a look today or tomorrow to see if I can fix this problem. -- Where 22:14, 10 March 2007 (UTC)
I haven't found time to work on it yet but I am working on it now. -- Where 02:23, 17 March 2007 (UTC)
I'm not sure, but to me, the problem appears to be that python is trying to convert the command line parameter to ASCII. I will try to ask a friend tomorrow, and if that fails, I will ask on a newsgroup. -- Where 02:57, 18 March 2007 (UTC)
Hello! I emailed you the code necessary to fix the encoding problem. Cheers, -- Where 02:00, 21 March 2007 (UTC)
Hi again. The problem is that you need to install the yahoo search python module. You can do this by typing "make install" in the directory of the module (you may need to be root). -- Where 19:44, 28 March 2007 (UTC)
websearch.py is the correct file. Have you tried calling append.py directly to make sure that it works? Something that you might want to try to isolate the problem is to see if append.py can write to a page with only latin characters in it. I will take a look tomorrow.
Happy editing, -- Where 04:05, 8 April 2007 (UTC)
Have you had any luck? -- Where 01:01, 12 April 2007 (UTC)

AlnoktaBot[edit]

Hi, I saw your Bot operating to add interwiki into English site. I am mainly doing my work in Cantonese Wikipedia (zh-yue.wikipedia.org). I really like to automate of adding interwiki into Enlgish and other language for zh.yue. What your Bot did [1] is exactly what I needed. I have a few questions like to ask you:

  1. Is it possible to have the original code of your bot, or to point to relevant info about it ?
  2. How to install it, or point me to relevant info ?
  3. If I cannot have the code, can you add "zh-yue" to its operation?

Thank you for time!!! You may write me back here: zh-yue:User_talk:WikiCantona --WikiCantona 08:59, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

It, he or she[edit]

Hi Al, you left before I returned to the chatroom, but please rest assured I treat it as I would a s/he (in fact I had to block a bot just yesterday). Seriously, though, your concern is duly noted. Xiner (talk, email) 21:42, 29 March 2007 (UTC)

Arabic Wikipedia (1)[edit]

Why you aren't you contributing in the Arabic Wikipedia?--The Joke النكتة‎ 03:57, 24 May 2007 (UTC)

Thanx for messaging man , Arabic wikipedia includes hundreds of unsourced info , it seems like a webforum or a blog website , don't you think so ? i often translate articles into arabic anyways . Ammar (Talk - Don't Talk) 09:35, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

Is that the only reason you don't want to contribute there? it doesn't apply, every wikipedia have a great number of un-sourced or unattributed statements (including of course the en.wp) yet there are still a huge number of contributers around the projects of wikimedia. how does it seem like a webforum or blog? please give me links because that is very annoying to hear.. give me examples so that we could fix if it is broken.

It is great to hear that you translate articles to Arabic, very nice of you. do you have an account there?

You may find this and this interesting to read. again..your translations are much appreciated!--The Joke النكتة‎ 10:31, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

Yeh but i always edit via offline mode from diffrente IP's , i just read those discussions , don't worry boss , i'm going to spend much more time over arabic wikipedia , you have my word :) take care ya pasha Ammar (Talk - Don't Talk) 14:07, 25 May 2007 (UTC)
That is awesome! thanks and looking forward to see your contributions..just tell me when you register there so that I could see you.--The Joke النكتة‎ 18:22, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

Bot conflict[edit]

Hi, your bot seems to have a conflict with 3 other bots about which Greek wikipedia page to link to on the [Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel] page. Want to check it out? Franklin Dmitryev 12:15, 9 June 2007 (UTC) Thanks, glad to hear the bots are doing what they're supposed to. Franklin Dmitryev 16:44, 10 June 2007 (UTC)

You wrote: "Its important to me not to be called a vandal. calling me a vandal actually hurts, I in what I do on Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects is to try to help as I could..that is the first time ever to be called a vandal, thus you can see I'm somewhat confused and sad."
  1. Excuse me, did I call you a vandal? If yes, please show me where; if not, then "I'm somewhat confused" seems fit.
  2. The article states properly that the term antisemitism refers to hostility towards Jews alone and contains a number of refs supporting this, e.g. Bernard Lewis: "Antisemitism has never anywhere been concerned with anyone but Jews." Your original research idea that it should apply also to "other people of Semitic origins" is unsupported by reliable sources, seems like a fringe POV.
  3. I agree with you that the intro should be improved. Looks like it was messed up recently. ←Humus sapiens ну? 23:50, 14 June 2007 (UTC)
First you wrongly accused me of calling you a vandal. When asked to explain yourself, you said that I am somehow "manipulating the words". I suggest you to learn our policies and guidelines and behave accordingly. ←Humus sapiens ну? 10:32, 15 June 2007 (UTC)

O.O[edit]

He Alnokta! In this edit at the article on Uncle Sam, your AlnoktaBot did not only added two links to other language articles, but also added "O.O". Pretty strange. Maybe this is a small bug? It might be nothing, but I thought I let you know. - Face 12:13, 17 June 2007 (UTC)

Oh, I didn't saw that! I think I need glasses... Thanks for your help! - Face 18:20, 17 June 2007 (UTC)

Request[edit]

  • Hi, I am not familiar with the Bot process and what or who I have to ask, so please forgive me if I am asking something not possible. What I wanted to do was use the Bot to go through the Category:UFOs and clean up all the articles there and all the articles in its subcategories automatically ... we have already discussed this option in the wikiproject paranormal talk page ( here ) and I was directed to go to an actual Bot discussion page(s) and request clean up here (which is why I am here) -Nima Baghaei talk · cont · email 21:43, 26 June 2007 (UTC)

Fix your bot[edit]

Please fix your bot so it does not perform reverts to old material when adding interwiki links. [2]. Thanks, SchmuckyTheCat

Bot behaviour also needs attention in relation to templates. On at least one occasion[3] it added Interiki links outside the <noinclude> tags. Causing invalid interwiki links to appear on every page which included the Template:Infobox Company template. Please consider a review. Guliolopez 21:55, 24 July 2007 (UTC)
