BIOGRAPHY[edit]

Gulay Huseynova was born on June 28, 1989 in Baku in a professors’ family. She is the granddaughter of Azerbaijani poet and writer Mammad Kazim.

In 2006 she was admitted to the Baku Slavic University, majoring in Russian Language and Literature. In 2010 she was awarded the title of "Honorary Graduate" of BSU for her high performance and active participation in the scientific, cultural and social life of the university.

After two years of pedagogical activity, she began her acting career in 2012, starring in the feature film "Most Simple Surname" by People's Artist of Azerbaijan, director Ramiz Fataliyev. Later, in 2013, she starred in the documentary film “Unforgettable” about the life of the Azerbaijani immigrant poet Almas Yildirim, and later played one of the main roles in the series “Flower of Life” by the Georgian director Irakli Apakidze.

In 2015, she wrote her first book in Turkish, in the genre of romantic humor titled “P.S. You were already short…" which was selected as the bestseller of the year, breaking the sales record in Azerbaijan and was awarded the "Golden Pen" award, as well as was published in Turkey in 2016 with a circulation of ten thousand (10,000). This book also has aroused great interest among Russian-speaking readers in the country, as well as stimulated the formation of the tradition of writing in “turkishlike” Turkish in modern Azerbaijani literature.

In 2017, her second novel "and an Americano.." was published in Turkey, and in large cities such as Baku, Istanbul, Izmir, Antalya, Bursa, Eskisehir, Kocaeli, Mersin, Trabzon and others as a result of which numerous autograph days took place.

A graduate of the Istanbul Film Academy in 2018, she played the role of Reyhan Kalfa as the only Azerbaijani in the cast of the Russian-Turkish series "Sultan of My Heart" (Star TV), produced by Hollywood director Bobby Roth and broadcast in 44 countries. The Russian premiere of the series named "Султан Моего Сердца" (First Channel) took place in January 2019 and caused a great resonance in Russian-speaking countries.

In 2018, she translated Grigory Petrov's book "The Country of White Lilies" from Russian into Turkish.

Gulay Huseynova, a member of the “7-Star International Film / Series Awards” jury, has starred in numerous TV series and films in Azerbaijan and Turkey, as well as was the host and scriptwriter of many television and radio programs. Her poems and writings are regularly being published in Turkish periodicals and literary platforms.

She has been living in Istanbul since 2016 and till now continues to work in the field of cinema and literature.
