These are lexical elements considered to be of Illyrian language origin which have cognates or may have cognates with Albanian language words (late loanwords into Albanian excluded). For Albanian words with Messapian cognates, see Messapian words with Albanian cognates.

Loúgeon Strabo's Geographica name of a marsh recorded by Strabo in his Geography (7.5), identified with modern Lake Cerknica, an intermittent lake (sometimes a marshy flat). It is a Greek rendition of a local toponym, perhaps of Illyrian origin, the text does not specify. It is Romanized as Lugeum. Strabo mentions Iapodes and Carnians inhabiting the area; the former Strabo identifies as a mixed Illyrian and Celtic tribe, while the Carnians may also have been Celtic. There are Celtic forms which are similar (v. Pokorny) PIE *laku-, "lake"
