From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hairstyles are of an importance in the life of individuals. In Himba tribe, one can be identified by the hairstyle they wear. [1]

For the Himba people hair is also a source of pride and a person's social position in the society is denoted by the way she/he wears his/her hair.[2]

Young Himba boys also wear plaits like young girls. However once a young Himba man is close to marriage age, he wears two parallel plaits running from the top of his head to the back of his neck.[3][4]
