Pieces of heart are useful items found in the Legend of Zelda games. They each consist of a quarter of a heart and are found hidden in hyrule or obtained by fulfilling side-quests. When four pieces of heart are collected, they form a whole heart container, which enables the character to take more damage before being killed.
