every 12 hours? i dont think so..

I know this is not very important, but on the template, it is stated that the sandbox is deleted every 12 hours, while in fact robot "OverlordQBot" is deleting the sandbox almost every minute .... yes, technically, the bot is "user" too, but well, for not confusing users, it should be written in the template that it will dissappear soon after a few minutes (or seconds), deleted by bot... just my opinion. --Have a nice day. Not done: The point is that anything that is not illegal is permitted in the sandbox - it's the one page where test edits, vandalism, and other crap is explicitly permitted so we can take a zero-tolerance approach elsewhere. Happy‑melon 13:15, 1 July 2008 (UTC)

Reason: I find it to be unclear that the phrase "edit this page" refers to the tab, especially for new users (who presumably use the Sandbox the most). Yes, despite the text in bold. If you read the instruction as clicking on the text "edit the page above" nothing happens (obviously). It would make things much clearer if the instruction explicitly mentions the tab. Not mentioning the tab is omitting a vital clue for no good reason, I would say. This change makes the template only minimally longer. CapnZapp (talk) 17:35, 29 September 2008 (UTC)

• There's not too much too be done about this, because it's usually just for tests and not "work." If there's something that you are test-editing and it's important, the best thing you could do would be to create your own sandbox in your userspace. That, or use someone else's. No more dotted borders!

No offensive words

How about adding a message into the template telling NOT to use offensive words in the sandbox. This is in response to these comment I came across:

I would support shortening this template. There is no need for a lot of the content, I think. However this change does make the template longer (on my monitor at least) and so I cannot support it. I still have qualms about the image and shortcut box though as they squash the text and make the template longer than it could be. If you're set on the image, how about removing the shortcut list. I don't think there's much benefit gained from omitting the information. I think it's unlikely to increase the size of the template. And I think all of the shortcuts are reasonable. Reducing the number from five to three offers marginal benefit, if any. It's unchanged relative to the status quo, so I'm inclined to err on the side of no change. Reason: To make it generic. This change means the template can be used, as is (without complex 'if' code) on other pages, such as the tutorial sandboxes Wikipedia:Tutorial/Editing/sandbox, Wikipedia:Tutorial/Formatting/sandbox, etc.

I am currently working on a bot to regularly clear the sandbox pages; work-in-progress, see Wikipedia:Bots/Requests for approval/ChzzBot II. (The bot which previously cleared the main sandbox has failed.)  Chzz  ►  15:10, 5 April 2011 (UTC)

Instead of sending newbies off to read about subpages, let's add this:

If you have registered an account you can find or create your own user sandbox here. For future easy access, you can put {{My sandbox}} on your userpage.

No thanks (I can do this myself, and I choose not to; I've ended up using my public account for some discussions related to the current arbcom case because I forgot to block it first, and then drifted into the odd unrelated thing, like this, but it's fairly limited. Note: Existing image File:Sandbox.png is PD so the presence of empty |link= is permitted; however File:Bucket in the sand.svg is CC-BY-SA so the image must be linkable for attribution purposes. Protection confusing

The template page is semi-protected: it has the gray lock and I can edit it (I'm not an administrator). Yet this talk page says the page "permanently protected from editing". Should the page be protected, or the notice changed? ~ihaveamac [talk|contribs] 19:18, 24 November 2012 (UTC)
