SEIS changes[edit]

After responses to the draft environmental impact statement (DEIS) a supplemental EIS included a significant change to the routing of the proposed route, namely its configuration in relation to the CSX North Bergen Yard and the NYSW/River Line right-of-way (ROW) in North Bergen. The HBLR Northern Branch will now cross OVER the CSX Yard (& NYSW Line) at the yard's southern end and will run along the west side of West Side Avenue. It will rejoin the Conrail Northern Branch ROW by passing over the River Line in the vicinity of 85th Street, south of the 91st station. As described in the SEIS "Northern Branch Corridor Project". www.northernbranchcorridor.com.: 3. Alternatives considered:

  • The alignment north of the existing Tonnelle Avenue Station would cross on viaduct over the CSX North Bergen Yard (freight rail yard) and travel along West Side Avenue at grade until 79th Street.(40°47′14″N 74°01′52″W / 40.787327°N 74.03119°W / 40.787327; -74.03119)
  • A second viaduct, known as the 85th Street Viaduct, will start ascending north of 79th Street, turn east to pass over the existing freight facilities, the NYS&W at-grade alignment and the CSX River Line elevated alignment, connecting to the Northern Branch running track at grade near 90th Street.(40°48′57″N 74°00′54″W / 40.815938°N 74.014889°W / 40.815938; -74.014889)

@Djflem: Is this correct? AlgaeGraphix (talk) 13:48, 28 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@AlgaeGraphix: Wow, thnx for your quick response; looks great. Two things: the viaduct from Tonnelle is actually over a few tracks at the extreme southern end of the rail yard proper and would be better represented on this diagram as being below it. A potential station of the HBLR, 69th Street, is at grade between the two viaducts and could be added.Djflem (talk) 17:05, 28 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Djflem:  Done. AlgaeGraphix (talk) 17:18, 28 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@AlgaeGraphix:. Looks great. Spacing is better representation of geography, too. Much appreciation.Djflem (talk) 17:36, 28 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Also to be considered is the expanded scope of the Passaic–Bergen–Hudson Transit Project, which will join the HBLR Northern Branch in North Bergen. Two alternatives are proposed: Following the NYSW Main Line and joining the HBLR south of 79th Street or following the Edgewater Branch and joining the HBLR north of 91st Street. See Template:Passaic-Bergen Rail Line, which also needs to be updated. Djflem (talk) 09:36, 28 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
