Scotland Map[edit]

As per previous discussion of other country maps (I am not sure where- it may not be in this template), it was discussed as to whether or not maps should look like an island; such as the existing Scotland map on this template.

I recall the argument went that as it is assumed someone reading an article has no previous knowledge on the subject, then surrounding countries should be included but shaded out. I have modified Image:Europe location ENG.png by cutting out Scotland and shading in Ireland and N. Ireland the same colour as England. I think this map looks neater in general as I am not a fan of the Satellite map style, as sometimes you can have too much detail.

I suggest that you raise this at WP Scotland first as the current maps went through a lot of development. Regan123 21:30, 11 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
May I suggest that it uses the same pantones as in the Default UK map? It would be nice to obtain consistency. Jhamez84 22:32, 11 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I notice the other map appears to have gone. Can I suggest using the version of the map that non-English versions of location map use? Image:Scotland map modern.png Pit-yacker 15:43, 5 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed Edinburgh Map

I draw your attention towards this proposed map for Edinburgh, where a discussion can be found at Talk:Edinburgh#A_map_of_Edinburgh

English County Maps[edit]

Can I suggest that we maintain the following list - to avoid the duplication of effort, to identify which have been done and which need doing, and to have everything in one place?

Scottish Local maps[edit]

Is there any thought about doing seperate local maps for the council areas of scotland, i know the Western Isles have a local map. Cheers Cyberdemon007 (talk) 11:02, 22 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm looking at something for Wales, and then might consider doing something for the cities of Scotland. The main problem with Scotland's divisions is that they tend to be very small, or very large. The former Regions and districts of Scotland would've been better for mapping, but, of course, these were abolished. I'll see what I can do, but help is welcome (it really is! -- England took me a year!) --Jza84 |  Talk  02:30, 26 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
OK thanks, which program do you use to make them?Cyberdemon007 (talk) 08:48, 26 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I use Adobe Illustrator, then "finish" them in Adobe Photoshop. On of the hardest bits is finding suitable source material to be "inspired" by. --Jza84 |  Talk  12:02, 26 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

2 locations[edit]

Does anyone know how to add two red dots to these maps? I'm trying to show the site of a "co-listing World Heritage Site" at Stonehenge, Avebury and Associated Sites. Any help would be much appreciated. Regards Psychostevouk (talk) 18:02, 7 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You can use {{Location map many}} - see the instructions there. Warofdreams talk 19:08, 7 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Phew! Took a little working out, but got it. Thanks Warofdreams! Psychostevouk (talk) 20:28, 7 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

London map[edit]

Is there a Central London map template? I put a map on Wellcome Collection but the Greater London map really cover too big an area to be useful. ProfDEH (talk) 19:21, 4 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

There isn't one at the moment I'm afraid. I'd be willing to create one, but I'd need the go-ahead from WP:LONDON as to what it should look like etc. You might want to raise it with the aforelinked project. :D --Jza84 |  Talk  19:34, 4 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Is there a way to count how many Infobox uses are within the City rather than Greater London? --GhostInTheMachine (talk) 21:17, 14 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

West Midlands map[edit]

The West Midlands outline map appears to be out of place. After adding the UK place infobox to all Birmingham ward articles, I've noticed that all of the points appear to be north of where they should be, indicating the map has shifted southwards. It's causing some problems because there the Oscott article seems to suggest that it's in Sutton Park and the Washwood Heath article seems to suggest that it is on the other side of the M6! Cheers. - Erebus555 (talk) 17:13, 27 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Cornwall map[edit]

Hi, the coordinates for the Cornwall map seem to be slightly off. See St Day, located ever so slightly west of the Kerrier-Carrick border but the map gives it as east of it. Not sure how to fix this, does anyone know how? Thanks --Joowwww (talk) 16:07, 26 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

New maps[edit]

How would I go about requesting or creating a new map? I'm looking for one for Peterborough unitary authority. Thanks, Rich257 (talk) 22:19, 7 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

There's a map WikiProject somewhere, but the consensus so far (for England) has been to use ceremonial county boundaries, rather than unitary authority areas. --Jza84 |  Talk  13:39, 8 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I see, I needed to read the documentation a bit more carefully to get the infobox template to work. It now seems that the calibration for the top left of the Cambridgeshire map may be out. For example the infoboxes for Dogsthorpe and Deeping Gate show an incorrect location on the map but clicking through to an external map source seems to show the correct position. Rich257 (talk) 22:08, 8 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, you're right. I think part of the northeasterly urban area of Peterborough has been missed out, or else the city limits are slightly out. I'll try and take a look at this in the next 48 hours and amend the map.
If a Peterborough map was made, it could be used like say how Didsbury uses its two maps. That would get around any distruption to Infobox UK place. --Jza84 |  Talk  22:26, 8 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
