Political position[edit]

For political position, I would suggest two subheadings: "Economic position" and "Social position." This would be much more revealing, especially with parties that do not fall into the traditional left-right scale very easily, like the Libertarian Party (United States).

"Colo(u)rs" is broken.[edit]

Currently, when an article uses the "colors" parameter, it shows up as "Official Colours". When an article uses the "colours" parameter (as many do, apparently), nothing shows up at all. That's because the following code uses only the "colors" parameter, but puts it in both the "colors" and "colours" portion of the parent template:

My earlier change simply deleted the second line, which should make no change other than to remove the 'u' on articles using the "colors" parameter (these are American parties; the 'u' is never correct). It makes no changes to those articles that incorrectly use the "colours" parameter. That change was reverted for apparently breaking articles that use the "colours" parameter, but it appears that the "colours" usages are already broken. I am going to re-apply my change this evening (CDT). If you think I am wrong, take a second look at the code and at what is actually appearing on the pages that use "colors" and "colours". If you still disagree with me, post a comment here (I'm watching this page) explaining why I'm wrong in my assessment.

The problem is that despite the template being for American usage, it seems to have included the British spelling "colour" from the onset. Back in January, I tried to correct for this by changing the parameter to the American spelling, but quickly decided that I ought to leave the British spelling one as well since many transclusions used it. Before I reverted your removal of "|Colours=" two days ago, I checked one of the transclusions that used the parameter, Colorado Democratic Party, and I could have sworn that no color displayed at all since the parameter was then nonexistent. However, when I checked again just moments ago, no color was displaying even with "|Colours=" being re-added. I do not understand why.

In general, I do not do much work with templates of this type. I tried to do what seemed logical back in January, and I hope very much that I did not break anything in the process. As the parent template may be the source of the trouble (I don't know), and since I am not experienced enough to feel comfortable working on it, I am going to revert this template back to your October 8 version and wish the best of luck to whoever can implement the changes necessary for optimum performance. --Sgt. Color discussion[edit]

The color that appears in the bar graphs that give the upper and lower house seats is being discussed at Template talk:Democratic Party (United States)/meta/color, and a consensus is needed that requires a color that is WMF compliant and still meets democratic party standards. Add language for name[edit]

Membership parameter[edit]
