Alternativ text / tooltips[edit]

Hello everybody, at the moment the alternativ text/tooltips are working fine on PC or Laptop with mouse over, but there is one problem on touchscreen interfaces like smartphones or tablets. There you get no informations about the symbols because there is no mouseover. Should we ignore this? One idea was to to add a link to the icons which guides to Vexillological symbol. That's working fine on tablets even on PC/Laptop but @Wikisaurus: pointed out: if you are browsing anonymosly (not logged in as wiki-user) on PC/Laptop a page-preview of Vexillological symbol popped up and no tooltip.

So what is better? In my humble opinion the linked image is a bit better because at the moment with no informations on tablets/smartphones it is not so usefull. In addition I think the problem with the page-preview is not so big, because when I click on the page I will get informations there about the icon I was wondering about. @Wikisaurus: In the german wikipedia we have a small question mark next to the symbol which links to de:Vexillologisches Symbol. People tent to eliminate this stupid question mark and prefer to put the link on the image. Whould you agree? Here in the english version we can wait for some other comments. Cheers --W like wiki good to know 22:39, 8 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I agree that a link to the page on the symbols is more helpful. I am a recent editor but long-time Wikipedia user and did not even realize there was a tool tip until recently, but I had tried to click on the images to see if they were links. So I think that's more intuitive if we can't do both.  Not A  Witty Fish 12:55, 21 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Lowercase the parameter before switching?[edit]

Currently for purposes of displaying the correct symbol, the incoming parameter is lowercased. But for purposes of the tooltip (displayed via switch statement), it is not. That means that strictly incorrect uses like {{FIAV|Proposal}} produce the correct symbol but the default "Vexillological description" tooltip. (See https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Flag_of_Utah&oldid=1146276293#21st_century_redesign_attempts for a live example.)

Would it cause any problems to convert the parameter to lowercase within the switch statement as well?

What code to use for a presidential flag?[edit]

Greetings and felicitations. The infoboxes in the articles for the flags of the presidents of Ukraine and Pakistan use(d) the apparently now outdated parameter "type" (with the string "personal") instead the current parameter "use". What FIAV code corresponds to that? —DocWatson42 (talk) 07:22, 5 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
