Beneficial or futile?[edit]

Existing data on 'winners' and 'runners-up' on the pages of individual players is often supported by references to official website (ACBL, WBF etc.) Unfortunately the links to these references are subject to change thereby invalidating all links. This template attempts to address this problem by locating the links for each governing body in one place for all players. Should the host website change its structure, an update edit need be made in only one place. But is this worthwhile given that an initial effort must be made to replace all applicable existing references with this template on each page for each individual. Can this effort be automated? Names or numbers?[edit]

At this writing, the draft template uses an alpha parameter for the name of the event. Given the possibility that name assignments can be ambiguous and can change over time, should the parameter be numeric? This would make it less intuitive but more robust.
