Although Melissa Satta is a supermodel and exhibits all the characteristics of a supermodel, this template is for those who were chosen to perform supermodel roles in the swimsuit issue. Bodypaint Models and Consistency[edit]
The question is: who should be included in this navbox? It seems that models from the bodypaint section are only sporadically included. Still, the asterisk is clearly noted as indicating that the model appeared in this section of the Swimsuit Issue. It seems logical to me to include the models from this section or other sections like it. TonyTheTiger stated in the previous section from 2013 that this list is for supermodels who perform supermodel roles in the magazine, not for those who appear in special sections. I suggest we take a look at this, as it doesn't seem to be relevant any longer to many readers, nor does it comply with how Sports Illustrated markets the magazine.
As an example of this as currently (not) working, if one looks at the cover models navbox, they will see three cover models listed for 2016. In 2016, there were in fact three separate covers and three separate models. One of the covers was devoted to Ronda Rousey, a model (and athlete) featured in the body paint section of the magazine. While she is listed in the Cover Models navbox, the 2016 section of the 2010–2019 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit navbox would lead one to believe she wasn't even in the magazine.
The fact is, these photo shoots were commissioned by Sports Illustrated especially for these issues and they are original photos not included anywhere else. Additionally, they were featured in all but a few editions between 1999-2017.
Similarly, in the 2018 edition, a special section called "In Her Own Words" featured famous models and athletes in non-swimsuit photo sessions. The idea of the magazine has evolved over the years and it seems whether a model is included with a new, exclusive photo or group of photos is more important than whether they happen to be wearing legitimate swimwear.
