Yad Kennedy[edit]

Yad Kennedy (Israel JFK Memorial)

  • ... that Yad Kennedy is a 60-foot tall Israeli memorial honoring John F. Kennedy, in the shape of a tree trunk from a tree chopped down in the prime of its life?

Created/expanded by NearTheZoo (talk). Self nom at 16:01, 3 September 2012 (UTC)

  • 5x expansion verified. Article nomination meets 5-day window. I formatted the references, removed the unnecessary biographical information about JFK and some POV material, and reorganized the presentation per other Wikipedia site articles. I noted a few places where citations are needed (the citation named "mtgs" was the same URL as "pa"). I'd also like to suggest a revised hook:
  • ALT1: ... that Yad Kennedy (pictured), a 60 feet (18 m) high Israeli memorial honoring John F. Kennedy, is shaped like the trunk of a felled tree, symbolizing a life cut short? Yoninah (talk) 22:48, 12 September 2012 (UTC)
  • ALT1 sounds good to me. Put in reference to replace citation needed tag. All refs seem to work fine now. Thanks! NearTheZoo (talk) 01:21, 13 September 2012 (UTC)
  • Hook ref is verified and all references check out. Waiting for another editor to OK my hook suggestion (per Rule H2). Yoninah (talk) 10:01, 13 September 2012 (UTC)
  • As the editor who nominated this article, if it is enough for me to formally change my recommended hook to ALT1, I do that now. NearTheZoo (talk) 11:52, 13 September 2012 (UTC)
  • The page creator just created a new article about the architect who designed the Yad Kennedy monument, David Resnick. How about a double hook? (As I am nominating this second nomination, no QPQ is necessary. But someone needs to review the new article.)
  • ALT2: ... that Yad Kennedy (pictured), a 60 feet (18 m) high Israeli memorial to John F. Kennedy designed by architect David Resnick, is shaped like the trunk of a felled tree, symbolizing a life cut short? Yoninah (talk) 14:31, 14 September 2012 (UTC)
  • Needs reviewer to do the newly added David Resnick article and approve ALT2; Yad Kennedy is already approved per Yoninah. BlueMoonset (talk) 05:11, 23 September 2012 (UTC)
Interesting article, good reading, many sources. A few suggestions for the article: format the references, at present almost all blue, with just a link to the title. Arrange the pics that they match the text. Consider to mention the different spellings of his name a bit later, it takes very long until we know that he is an architect. Are there redirects from the other spellings? Then bold them, please. The hook: it's well referenced (that ref formatted!) and I like it, but I am not so fond of the size in two systems (there's a tree in the image for comparison), and I could imagine to quote the wording of the source:
ALT3: ... that Yad Kennedy (pictured), a memorial to John F. Kennedy in Israel designed by architect David Resnick, is shaped like "a tree trunk representing untimely death". --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:51, 25 September 2012 (UTC)
  • All changes recommended by Gerda Arendt made.
  • Regarding the hook, I don't mind having the size taken out, but don't like "untimely death," which could be from illness or a host of other reasons. The memorial is described as the trunk of a felled tree, representing a life cut short or a life cut down in its prime, both descriptions using the active verb "cut," not just a death that was untimely. So I recommend:
*ALT4: ... that Yad Kennedy (pictured), an Israeli memorial to John F. Kennedy designed by architect David Resnick, is shaped like the trunk of a felled tree, symbolizing a life cut short?" NearTheZoo (talk) 00:57, 27 September 2012 (UTC)
ALT4 best, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:43, 27 September 2012 (UTC)
