Length (just barely), history and references verified. Much prefer the original hook (every corporation or brand is owned by someone or something, and ALT1 doesn't raise eyebrows), perhaps if it is amended to something like this:
ALT2: ... that descendants of the Florsheim Shoes founder bought Weyco Group back following a 2001 bankruptcy, half a century after the family had sold it? Daniel Case (talk) 15:24, 28 July 2015 (UTC)
  • Article had some facts wrong and irrelevant information included; after copyedit and other adjustments its now at 1433 prose characters, which is too short. I struck ALT1 as it was not interesting; ALT2 was struck because it is inaccurate: the descendents, who owned the successful Weyco, bought back bankrupt Florsheim. Weyco co-founder Thomas Sr.—who left Florsheim after clashing with his father/boss who ran Florsheim and started bought into Weyco—still owns a significant portion of the company, but he retired in 1999; his son Thomas Jr. is the current CEO. I've also struck the original hook because the chief interest would be that both Weyco and Florsheim are in the shoe business, something the hook doesn't mention. The NYT article had some useful information about the exact relationship of Weyco to Florsheim and the former's founding that could easily be incorporated into the article, bring it nicely over 1500 prose characters, and likely be the basis of a much better hook that the original one.   • ALT3 might have the germ of a hook idea in it, but there is no required bold link and the grammar and spelling are problematic. TonyTheTiger, if you're serious about this nomination, you'll have to give us a better ALT hook to work with. BlueMoonset (talk) 15:31, 3 August 2015 (UTC)

TonyTheTiger, are you serious? You know perfectly well that hooks must begin with ellipses and not capital letters, and I did mention grammar and spelling issues, none of which have been addressed in ALT4. I'm not going to fix this hook for you; you've been contributing to DYK for too long to make such beginner mistakes, and this time you even copied your previous timestamp instead of making a new one.   • Let's get a new reviewer in here to review ALT5a and give a full review of the expanded article. Tony's ALT5 still had two errors, including misspelling Thomas Sr.'s surname, but waiting for him to create a fully valid hook has gone on long enough. Age, length, neutrality, copyvio and plagiarism all OK. Alt5a is fine, if a bit awkward. Only one question: how do we know that picture is of brogues by Nunn Bush? The image details just say "Men's circa 1930s full brogue (or wingtip) oxford spectator shoes" with no maker specified, there doesn't seem to be any branding on the shoes themselves, and it is a common design.
