St Matthew Passion structure[edit]

  • Suggested for Good Friday, 6 April. The pic might be reduced to the head for the small size, as here, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:44, 31 March 2012 (UTC)
Comment: I strongly recommend not using "NBA" in the hook. I saw "NBA" and immediately thought "National Basketball Association"; the vast majority of Americans will do likewise. I don't see that "according to the NBA," is needed at all; the fact is cited in the article. In fact, the way the hook reads, the NBA not only gives the number of movements, but also the contents information that follows. Even if it does, there is no citation that the NBA mentions Picander. If you absolutely want the edition mentioned, then you should use the English variant, "New Bach Edition", in full. Here's an alternate hook without the NBA:
  • I strongly like to use NBA because it will attract a few extra readers :) ALT1 is nice, thank you, but not correct, because the (older and better known) BWV has 77 movements. For reasoning why to use NBA see a discussion with Michael Bednarek.
ALT2: ... that Bach's St Matthew Passion is structured in 67 movements (according to the NBA) and tells the Passion (pictured) based on the Gospel of Matthew, Picander's contemporary poetry, and chorales? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:40, 1 April 2012 (UTC)
Well, if ALT1 is incorrect, then it isn't nice enough. ;-) I like ALT2, and the only thing I would change is to remove the parenthesis and replace with commas, which keeps the character count at 194:

All checks out OK to me. In my opinion, I'd say that ALT3 is probably best. Definately support the move to Good Friday. The C of E. God Save The Queen! (talk) 16:07, 3 April 2012 (UTC)
