Mining industry of Libya[edit]

  • ... that even though Libya may have one of the world's largest iron ore deposits, the mining industry of Libya does not contribute significantly to the county's economy?

  • -Libya - nominated 1 day after created, length of over 2200 characters is adequate, reference citations check, hook source verified and is interesting, no copyvio or plagiarism, 3 pictures in article are copyright free plus Flickr picture properly licensed, but none used in DYK nomination. QPQ of William Troy (abolitionist) done.--Doug Coldwell (talk) 18:37, 11 August 2015 (UTC)
  • I would think most of the data in the article is badly out of date as it is pre the fall of the Gaddafi regime and the ongoing civil war; I don't suppose any industry is contributing much to the economy at the moment. Belle (talk) 01:14, 12 August 2015 (UTC)

I suggest the following alternative hook in view of review comments.

  • -Libya - nominated 1 day after created, length of over 2200 characters is adequate, reference citations check, hook source verified of Wadi ash-Shati' may hold one of the world's biggest iron ore deposits. Hook is interesting, no copyvio or plagiarism, 3 pictures in article are copyright free plus Flickr picture properly licensed, but none used in DYK nomination. QPQ of William Troy (abolitionist) done.--Doug Coldwell (talk) 18:49, 21 August 2015 (UTC)
  • The ALT1 hook doesn't make sense. There is no iron mining in Libya, so how can unused iron deposits, no matter how large, be considered part of the mining industry? The hook needs to be rephrased, perhaps to point out that although Libya may have one of the world's biggest iron ore deposits, its mining industry is unable to extract it because it's so remote (and even if the railroad was built it apparently wouldn't be as cost-effective as imported iron is). I also think the "Production and impact" section needs an overhaul: it's hard to tell which minerals are being mined (like oil, gypsum, sulphur, and salt), and which exist but aren't being extracted (like iron). • I have made changes to the text as suggested. Proposing
  • ALT2 Hook ... that although Libya may have one of the world's biggest iron ore deposits in the Wadi ash-Shati', it is not mined because of its remote location? Nvvchar. 03:13, 28 August 2015 (UTC)
  • New reviewer needed to check the ALT2 hook and whether the issues raised earlier have been satisfactorily addressed. Thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 20:15, 28 August 2015 (UTC)
  • New enough, long enough, well referenced, neutrally written, no close paraphrasing seen. The Production and Impact section has been rewritten satisfactorily. ALT2 hook ref verified and cited inline. I moved the piped link from "Libya" to "mined" because that seems to make more sense. QPQ done. ALT2 good to go. Yoninah (talk) 20:06, 2 September 2015 (UTC)
