Miguel Enríquez (privateer)[edit]

Don Miguel Enríquez

  • ... that Miguel Enríquez (pictured) went from being a shoemaker to one of the most wealthy and influential figures in the New World?
  • Comment: Fairly straight forward. The article was barely "start" class (rated as "B", but not really a "C") and only had six references a few hours ago. Besides, I find this particular fact fascinating.

  • Question/comments (1) Did you review another article, and/or are you new enough that you don't yet need to review another article? (2) You can't go from illegitimacy to legitimacy unless [in some contexts] your parents later marry; that doesn't work in some jurisdictions, and it definitely doesn't happen when your father is always unknown. (3) This is only a question and comments; please don't consider it a review. Nyttend (talk) 14:57, 3 January 2014 (UTC)
  • It has been a few years since the last time that I nominated a hook, is reviewing other hooks now mandatory? You have a good point about the legitimacy, by knighting him the king granted him the rights of a noble retroactively ("Don" means "of noble origin"), but it was never attended directly. So... Here is another, less wordy hook. - Caribbean~H.Q. 15:20, 3 January 2014 (UTC)
  • ALT1: ... that Miguel Enríquez (pictured) went from being the governor's salesman to one of the most wealthy and influential figures in the New World?
  • ALT2: ... that Miguel Enríquez (pictured) was the only Puerto Rican knighted during the Spanish colonial period?
  • Ref#1 supports this one. The problem is that the interview is in Spanish and that a little editing would be nessesary to insert it. - Caribbean~H.Q. 12:44, 4 January 2014 (UTC)

Note: Per the new QPQ criteria, I reviewed another hook here. - Caribbean~H.Q. 13:40, 4 January 2014 (UTC)

  • No sourcing and copyright issues, and expansion was within the timeline. The lede is too long, and most of the sections need to be trimmed and sub-divided, but I don't think those are issues which prevent the article from going on DYK.--¿3family6 contribs 17:19, 6 February 2014 (UTC)
The question raised above by Nyttend on the issue of illegitimacy does not seem to have been answered. Although Nyttend was not specific about the prose, I think the issue is the first paragraph of "Early life". And nothing in the editing history since Nyttend left that question, has been relating to that issue. Also, there are three suggested hooks. Please provide some details on the hooks. Are they mentioned in the article, and are they supported by inline citations? And which one is the approved hook?— Maile (talk) 21:00, 6 February 2014 (UTC)
Oh, sorry, approved for main hook. I don't understand Nyttend's about illegitimacy - the article says that Henriquez was born illegitimate, but I don't see anywhere where it says he became legitimate. If that's the only contention, I don't see any need to hold this article here.--¿3family6 contribs 21:09, 6 February 2014 (UTC)
The issue of ilegtimacy was not related to the article, but to the original hook. Nyttend fixed that when asking the question. - Caribbean~H.Q. 06:42, 7 February 2014 (UTC)
Then I see no reason to put this hook on hold. Approved for main hook.--¿3family6 contribs 13:50, 7 February 2014 (UTC)
