Interesting creatures, on fines sources, subscription sources accepted AGF (= assuming good faith). The image is licensed, and pretty, and a good illustration of something rare. Thank you for sharing it! However, in the stamp size of the Main page, it looks pretty abstract to me. We don't need the precise location in the caption. (I was there, DYK?) Perhaps try an image which pictures only one insect, because for the currently suggested image, you'd have to say something like (two insects pictured mating). Whatever in the clause, it needs italics around the brackets, - I did that for you, and also dropped three dots at the end, - only at the beginning ;) - In the hook, I suggest you don't repeat peppermint, but say something about "robust chemical defense", perhaps saying how far they can reach. We should not give away all but make readers curious enough to click. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:59, 12 January 2021 (UTC)
  • Thank you for the kind words and the helpful suggestions! I have replaced the image with the only other decent photo I have of this extremely rare phasmid. Perhaps this is a better hook?
  • ALT1: ... that in addition to its aposematic coloration, the peppermint stick insect (pictured) possesses a robust chemical defense mechanism?

Thank you! I usually try to get the subjsct as the first link, - we count views to the insect, not to aposematism ;)
ALT1a: ... that the peppermint stick insect (pictured) possesses an aposematic coloration and a robust chemical defense mechanism?
- all set, and I believe this image works better in small! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:09, 12 January 2021 (UTC)
Thanks for all your help, Gerda; I have learned a great deal from this exercise. I like your hook (ALT1a) best. How do we ensure this is the hook that runs in DYK? DiverDave (talk) 15:55, 13 January 2021 (UTC)
Easy, you strike the others ;) - done --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:21, 13 January 2021 (UTC)
The sentence "It is likely that this is also the case with M. batesii and all of the other species of Megacrania." is unreferenced. SL93 (talk) 04:48, 21 January 2021 (UTC)
I have changed the sentence to read "It is possible that this is also the case with M. batesii and all of the other species of Megacrania." DiverDave (talk) 15:11, 21 January 2021 (UTC)
DiverDave It still needs to be referenced. Either that or removed. SL93 (talk) 16:48, 21 January 2021 (UTC)
SL93 No problem. I have removed the offending sentence. DiverDave (talk) 17:47, 21 January 2021 (UTC)
Restoring tick. SL93 (talk) 17:48, 21 January 2021 (UTC)
