Max Nord[edit]

Reguliersgracht 111

Created by Drmies (talk). Self-nominated at 23:20, 10 July 2015 (UTC).

  • New, well-written article nominated on time. Neutral, with sufficient inline citations. The hook facts are in the article and have properly placed inline citations, but the sources are in Dutch, so AGF on that. No close paraphrasing found in the English sources; AGF on the Dutch ones (which is most of them). If someone who speaks Dutch wants to check these out, feel free to do so, but I think it's unnecessary. QPQ done. Image is on Commons, and, according to Commons:Freedom of panorama#Netherlands, photos of buildings are okay.
Two things, Drmies:
• The first sentence of the "After the war" section says "he edited the paper's editor art section." I assume "editor" should be removed, but I guess it's possible that the paper had a section devoted to editor art.
• To me, the most "hooky" thing in the article is that this illegal paper was edited next door to the SS's intelligence agency. What do you think about a hook incorporating that? MANdARAX  XAЯAbИAM 03:05, 12 July 2015 (UTC)
  • Mandarax, correction made. Thank you. I would have hooked that SD office too (not SS--don't mix up your Nazi acronym bouillabaise), but I have found no better verification than that one mention for the office being on the same gracht...trust me, I looked all over. Drmies (talk) 19:47, 12 July 2015 (UTC)
  • Too bad you couldn't find sufficient verification to feel comfortable putting that in a hook, but the current hook is fine. (BTW, I didn't mix up the SS and the SD; I referred to the SD as "the SS's intelligence agency", which, according to the wikiarticle, was part of what the SD was.)
One more question which I feel silly asking you. The Nord article says "the Netherlands were already occupied". Now, I would've said "the Netherlands was". Are both of those correct?
    In any case...
Good to go. MANdARAX  XAЯAbИAM 02:10, 13 July 2015 (UTC)
  • Sorry, but I returned this from prep 4 as I was unable to confirm the hook from the source. I did a google translate on the supplied source for the hook and all it said was something like: "Max Nord said 'we found it safe enough'", which implies but doesn't actually state that Nord lived there. I think another hook may be necessary - something about working next to the Nazi office would be an obvious angle. Gatoclass (talk) 18:16, 14 July 2015 (UTC)
  • Gatoclass, earlier in the source's paragraph, Google translate says "he moved with his now with Frank ( November 3, 1942 ) extended family to Amsterdam. There, in the large and welcoming building Reguliersgracht 111, also had several others of the Parool group found shelter." Drmies could obviously supply a better translation, but that looks fine to me. (Using a hook about the Nazis next door was discussed above.) MANdARAX  XAЯAbИAM 19:39, 14 July 2015 (UTC)
Well the "he" in question is Carmiggelt, not Nord, and it just says he moved in with "several others of the Parool group", but it doesn't say Nord was one of them. Gatoclass (talk) 19:54, 14 July 2015 (UTC)
  • Yeah, I had just read it over again and was coming here to point that out myself, but you beat me to it. Drmies, does a source sufficiently support this hook, or do you want to suggest a different one? MANdARAX  XAЯAbИAM 20:06, 14 July 2015 (UTC)
  • Sorry, Gatoclass, but I don't see the problem. "His lifelong friendships with Wim van Norden and Simon Carmiggelt date from those days. With their families the lived in one house on the Reguliersgracht in Amsterdam, the never-discovered nerve center of Het Parool". Does that answer the question? Drmies (talk) 03:50, 15 July 2015 (UTC)
Yes, that amply resolves the issue, thank you for the clarification Drmies. Since there was only reference directly following the hook fact, I assumed that was the only reference you had for it. I will return this one to the queue at the first opportunity. Gatoclass (talk) 04:30, 15 July 2015 (UTC)
I've restored the hook to prep 1 as the next available set already has a WWII hook. Thanks once again for the quick response. Gatoclass (talk) 04:42, 15 July 2015 (UTC)
