Actually, there is enough room to add that he was an autodidact to the hook. I am afraid that I am finding this DYK process (inc, instructions for how to reviw) very frustrating, and the page load time at present is ridiculous. If this is geared towards newcomers then there is something in need of attention but I am unsure whether that is a software or a template issue. - Sitush (talk) 02:04, 20 January 2012 (UTC)

Sitush, first DYK requirement: hook needs to be sourced. Can you stick the proper footnote in the article right after the quote--is it Paxton 1848? Drmies (talk) 02:53, 20 January 2012 (UTC)

Oops - like I said, it is too messy for me! Source (now entered) is the ODNB, actually. If we are really pedantic then it is from his autobiographical piece in Manchester Guardian of 2 March 1850, as quoted by ODNB. - Sitush (talk) 07:32, 20 January 2012 (UTC)

Proposed alterantive hook:

I like both hooks but prefer the first as "born dead" can't possibly be accurate. Alternate: "was said to have been born dead"? I also really like a biography illustrated with a picture of a lily he cultivated. Readers in other countries may want to see "ODNB" spelled out.
