John A. Spizziri

  • ... that John A. Spizziri proposed allowing people to carry small amounts of prescription tranquilizers, after a man was arrested when Librium pills were found in a jacket that a dog had dragged away? "Arrest Of Patient Stirs Legislature" in The New York Times: "While on a visit in Wood‐Ridge on May 8, Mr. Schwam was carrying in an unmarked one‐inch green and brown vial ‘eight Librium capsules he had taken from a large bottle containing his monthly supply of 120 pills.... A neighborhood dog ran off with his denim jacket containing the vial. woman who later found the jacket but could not learn the owner's name took it to the police, who found the pills and arrested Mr. Schwam under a section ‐of the drug law that prohibits carrying dozens of types of pills and prescribed drugs in anything but the original, labled container provided by a pharmacist.... The new amendment, offered by Assemblyman John A. Spizziri, Republican of Franklin Lakes, would permit person with a legitimate need for a controlled drug to carry a two‐day supply of the pills or medication in any container")

5x expanded by Alansohn (talk). Self-nominated at 12:53, 22 July 2019 (UTC).

  • @Alansohn: This article is a five-fold expansion and is new enough and long enough. The article is neutral and I detected no copyright or plagiarism issues. A QPQ has been done. I think the article is unbalanced. It has a large paragraph, more than half the article in fact, discussing a criminal justice-related incident in detail, all for the sake of mentioning that Spizziri made a proposal to amend the law. So, was the law changed? Did he do nothing else worthy of mention in his whole life? Cwmhiraeth (talk) 05:31, 15 August 2019 (UTC)
  • Narutolovehinata5, I'd prefer to be able to expand the article, but I'm facing challenges finding meaningful sources. A new subscription should help and the article will be updated appropriately. Alansohn (talk) 01:40, 5 September 2019 (UTC)
  • Have you tried asking for help from resource exchanges or other pages like that? Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 08:50, 6 September 2019 (UTC)
  • @Alansohn: If you're having difficulties with sourcing, maybe you can ask for help at WP:REX. Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 00:47, 9 September 2019 (UTC)
    • Narutolovehinata5, I have a request in to Wikipedia Library Card for newspaper subscriptions. It's very much in progress. Alansohn (talk) 00:52, 9 September 2019 (UTC)
  • @Alansohn: How are things going along so far? Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 01:18, 27 September 2019 (UTC)
  • @Alansohn: I appreciate that you have been working hard on this article, but the nomination has been open since July and yet the sourcing issues have yet to be resolved. If this cannot be completed soon, then sadly there may be no option but to mark the nomination for closure. Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 01:33, 30 September 2019 (UTC)
    • Narutolovehinata5, I've gained access to Newspaper Archives and Ebsco, and have continued my research, with no meaningful content to add. If you're willing to wait, that's great. If you're not, I believe that the content of the article stands on its own as meeting DYK standards and I hope that you will evaluate it on that basis. Alansohn (talk) 22:06, 2 October 2019 (UTC)
@Cwmhiraeth: Are you satisfied with Alansohn's explanation here, or are there still issues that need addressing? Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 00:18, 3 October 2019 (UTC)
Nothing seems to have been done to the article for the last two and a half months. Let's ask @Yoninah: what she thinks. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 05:17, 3 October 2019 (UTC)
  • I read the article and see that that paragraph about the tranquilizers is completely WP:UNDUE and the rest of the article does not meet the 1500 character threshold. Marking for closure as unsuccessful. Yoninah (talk) 11:49, 3 October 2019 (UTC)
@Alansohn: Will you be able to address the WP:UNDUE concerns raised by Yoninah? Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 13:47, 3 October 2019 (UTC)
  • Thank you for adding more about his career, Alansohn. But the issue of whether the legislation was adopted is still not answered, and frankly, this proposed legislation section is much longer and overwinded than the previous one-sentence paragraph which cites another piece of sponsored legislation. I think this paragraph should be pared down significantly and combined with the first one. Regarding the hook, the thrust leans more toward the dog than the bolded subject. A new hook is in order. Yoninah (talk) 12:30, 6 October 2019 (UTC)
  • Yoninah, thanks for the feedback. I will make the requested additions. Alansohn (talk) 12:52, 6 October 2019 (UTC)
@Alansohn: It has been over a week since your last comment here. Will you still be able to address the concerns here? This is currently the oldest open nomination, and there has been relatively little progress over the past few months. The nomination may need to be marked for closure if the remaining issues cannot be addressed in a prompt manner. Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 12:10, 14 October 2019 (UTC)
@Alansohn: I see that you commented here about an hour ago but immediately reverted the edit. Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 02:32, 16 October 2019 (UTC)
  • Narutolovehinata5, through the Wikipedia Library, I have gained access to Ebsco resources and Newspaper Archive, neither of which have anyting meaningful to add about Spizziri. I just received approval for Newspaper.com, which I have strong reason to expect will be helpful; I will receive my access in the next week or two. I have repeatedly updated and expanded this article to address the issues raised and will continue to do so with the access gained via Newspapers.com. Alansohn (talk) 02:35, 16 October 2019 (UTC)
  • Considering this nomination has been open since July (meaning this is the oldest currently active nomination), any remaining sourcing issues or expansion requirements have to be resolved by the end of the month if this is to pass. Otherwise, the nomination may have to be marked for closure. Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 01:16, 18 October 2019 (UTC)
  • @Alansohn: Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 00:19, 23 October 2019 (UTC)
  • @Alansohn: As this nomination is the oldest nomination that's still open and little progress has been made over the past few months, it may be marked for closure if the remaining issues are not resolved by Tuesday. Please respond if you still intend to continue this nomination. Courtesy ping to the original reviewer Cwmhiraeth as well as to Yoninah. Narutolovehinata5 tccsdnew 23:39, 29 October 2019 (UTC)
  • In spite of multiple pings, the nominator has been unable to return to the nomination, despite being active elsewhere on Wikipedia. As the issues have remained unaddressed for months and do not appear to be likely to be resolved for the foreseeable future, this nomination is now marked for closure as abandoned.
