Historical figure[edit]

Lady Godiva by John Collier

  • ... that the historical figure of Lady Godiva (pictured) did not ride naked through the streets?
  • ALT1 ... that the historical figure of Lady Godiva (pictured) probably did not ride naked through the streets?
  • ALT2 ... that it's doubtful that the historical figure of Lady Godiva (pictured) actually rode naked through the streets?

  • In case it isn't obvious, the example of Lady Godiva in the hook is intended to be something of a pun. And the picture makes it a visual pun. Warden (talk) 20:06, 18 October 2012 (UTC)
  • The AfD is closed, "snow keep". Aymatth2 (talk) 12:03, 25 October 2012 (UTC)
  • Review needed now that AfD has closed. BlueMoonset (talk) 17:52, 25 October 2012 (UTC)

Quick comment about the hook. The ref says "scholars agree that the nude horseback ride probably never happened". The hook also needs to add "probably". --Redtigerxyz Talk 09:19, 26 October 2012 (UTC)

  • The hook won't read so well if it is hedged with qualifications. The current source's title is 7 Historical Figures Famous for Something They Never Did which seems quite definite. Here's another source which states "most medieval scholars agree the ride never took place". I'd rather beef up the sourcing than weaken the hook but, to show willing, I've added a couple of ALTs so we can see how they look. Warden (talk) 11:19, 26 October 2012 (UTC)
I would not depend on the catchy title for a TV show 7 Historical Figures Famous for Something They Never Did for interpretation, but the text in it. The word "most" again signifies that all may not agree. IMO, it is better to weaken the hook with a "probably", than be inaccurate. --Redtigerxyz Talk 11:40, 26 October 2012 (UTC)
Ref 52 Lukacs date does not match. Otherwise references are good. Redirect -> article (New). 19KB prose size good. Article is good, with inline references and within policy. ALT hooks are good. --Redtigerxyz Talk 12:47, 26 October 2012 (UTC)
Note: striking the original hook, as it was not approved. BlueMoonset (talk) 14:09, 26 October 2012 (UTC)
