  • I couldn't access the Washington Post article that is cited as the source for part of the hook but it is widely reported elsewhere (eg here). The founding checks out to another ref and is interesting enough for a hook. Article was created 15 July and exceeds 1500 characters. Sources I could access (Arfin, Gubler & Glynn, Strouse, Galante) check out, AGF on the remainder and the Romanian language reference. No close paraphrasing noticed from the English language sources. QPQ carried out, image used in article is free. Nice article on an interesting character, thanks. Looks good to go - Dumelow (talk) 09:46, 16 July 2016 (UTC)
  • Comment - had the author gone beyond travel guides (!) as a source, she would have found that the Gypsy violinist father story is most likely a myth. His father was, in all likelihood, a Jewish merchant. Also, people born in Romania in 1868 weren't usually named "Henri Alexandre Negresco", but, as is the case for our subject, Alexandru Negrescu. And their mothers weren't called "Mary" but Maria. It's all in the Historia article, which really ought to have been consulted. Ah, and the move to Paris seems to have taken place in 1895 - while Tănase is an entertaining enough raconteur, that site of his is basically a blog. - Biruitorul Talk 23:07, 16 July 2016 (UTC)

  • Hello, Biruitorul. I'll try and improve the article with the Historia.ro ref (Romanian language) you've linked to, but if I get the translation wrong, perhaps you can correct my mistakes? In any case, thanks for pointing me to it as, of course, I like to get things right. And, of course, you can improve the article yourself; I don't mind sharing "credit" at DYK... I welcome it. Thanks for your work on this Biruitorul, I didn't do much looking into the Romanian sources as my knowledge of the language is nil. I don't like to rely on Google translate too much, especially as it seems to mangle the text in these cases. I don't think the use of travel guides is too much of a porblem in an article like this, which is essentially focused on a hotel. I see now the majority of references are to the Romanian history site in any case - glad you were able to provide the linguistic expertise to improve this article.
