H. Radclyffe Roberts

  • ... that H. Radclyffe Roberts once used a parachute, pullies, and an "insect bomb" to collect grasshoppers from treetops? Source: "Rad was not only an active collector but was always having innovative ideas as to how to collect grasshoppers. One of the most interesting was shooting a plastic parachute into the tops of tropical trees, using lines attached to the parachute to send up an insect bomb by a series of pullies, and releasing insecticide in the treetops. A plastic sheet was laid on the ground below the treetops to collect the falling insects. In this way he collected thousands of specimens, many of which were new to science" JSTOR 4064811: 270

  • New enough and long enough. Earwig's copyvio detector didn't find any likely copyright violations and the page is within Wikipedia policy. I spot-checked a few citations, which include the information cited. The hook is short enough and "hooky". I was able to check the cited JSTOR article to verify the information in the hook. The QPQ is done. Impressive research! Rwelean (talk) 18:52, 21 February 2022 (UTC)
