George Luther Kapeau[edit]

Kailua, about 1836

Created/expanded by KAVEBEAR (talk). Self nom at 02:46, 12 November 2012 (UTC)

  • Unfortunately this interesting article does not qualify for DYK. It was created by KAVEBEAR in February 2012 and expanded by him from 12th November onwards, going from 11,106 bytes on that date to its present size, 15,276 bytes. No five-fold expansion here I am afraid. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 15:29, 25 November 2012 (UTC)
    • I moved it out of my namespace on November 12. If I had just copied and past this instead of moving it (which many people do and destroy the history and process of the article's creation), the date of creation would be considered as November 12. It wasn't an article until I moved it out of my namespace.--KAVEBEAR (talk) 21:26, 25 November 2012 (UTC)

  • My mistake! The article does qualify under the newness criterion as it was moved out of userspace. It also qualifies under length, being within policy, hook length and sourcing. The image is in the public domain but is a bit wishy-washy at thumbnail size in my opinion. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 06:02, 26 November 2012 (UTC)
  • The hook, at 237 characters including spaces, minus 12 for the "(pictured)" plus its spaces, is far over the maximum of 200. A new shorter ALT hook or a shortened version of the current one must be devised before this submission can be approved. BlueMoonset (talk) 03:37, 27 November 2012 (UTC)
  • Please choose.--KAVEBEAR (talk) 04:02, 27 November 2012 (UTC)
  • I actually prefer something slightly different: it's important to have Hawaii in there as in ALT1, but I'm not convinced (from reading the sources) that "prompted" is warranted, as it was the ninth of Tromelin's ten reasons in his note to the king. So I'm proposing an ALT3, which will need an independent reviewer because I'm bringing in a new fact (that there were ten demands):
It's also a bit shorter than the others, at 190 characters, which helps. If this works for you, I'll put out a call for a reviewer. —BlueMoonset (talk) 15:23, 27 November 2012 (UTC)
I think their religion should be state because priest can mean the native priests, the kahunas. It is just exactly 200 characters or we could just say Catholics and remove priest if you 200 exactly is too long. KAVEBEAR (talk) 17:46, 27 November 2012 (UTC)
  • ALT4 hook approved as being confirmed in sources, and I get 199 characters for the length, just under the maximum. Striking the earlier hooks. Didn't think of non-Christian priests, since other words are usually used to describe non-Catholic clergy; I think it is important to note that they were priests under the circumstances, and not just any Catholics. Thanks for the quick response. BlueMoonset (talk) 22:27, 27 November 2012 (UTC)
