  • Both ALT1 and ALT2 are inaccurate as the growing of coffee plants by the native Sinhalese did not constitute coffee production. Dan arndt (talk) 08:44, 27 July 2015 (UTC)

To be honest I'm in the middle of expanding the article, in particular the history of coffee cultivation in Ceylon. I'm still tracking down the dates and people involved in its initial cultivation. Dan arndt (talk) 13:13, 27 July 2015 (UTC)

I there is an issue here @ColonialGrid:, @Dan arndt:. DYK requires nomination within a week. I don't think this process can go on forever, although of course the improvement in the article can continue. As it is there is no hook at the moment! Taking Dan's point I propose the one below. I do think we need to get this nom to the main page or withdraw the nomination quite quickly. Victuallers (talk) 16:23, 27 July 2015 (UTC)

Within policy – The article is neutral, free of integrity issues (with some good faith given to non-internet based publications) and generally within policy, however, there is one issue:
  • "The first recorded coffee plantation of that time was in Baddegama, Galle District, as a planted garden crop. The venture failed due to the unsuitability of the area for coffee cultivation. The first to successfully grow coffee on a commercial scale was George Bird, who established a coffee plantation in Singhapitiya. Edward Barnes, who became Governor of Ceylon in 1824, established another plantation in Gannoruwa[7] in 1825." is not supported by the citation given.
I have now fixed this issue, using sources already in the article and removing what I couldn't verify quickly. Anything I removed can be added later, but given how long this has already taken, I think getting the review complete is more important. ColonialGrid (talk) 08:05, 28 July 2015 (UTC)

  • Hi, I came by to promote this but then noticed that @ColonialGrid: approved his own hook, which is not allowed. I think the ALT4 hook is pretty weak, but ALT5 is very good. So I'll go ahead and approve it. I have access to HighBeam, so I can say that the ALT5 ref is verified and cited inline. ALT5 good to go. Yoninah (talk) 12:11, 31 July 2015 (UTC)
