  • ... that one symbol of Buddhist devotion is a footprint, believed to have been left behind by a Buddha? Source: "Shrines housing replicas of the soles of a Buddha’s feet (positive models) or of his footprints (negative impressions) as the primary icon are common. The replicas are made on stone slabs, wooden panels, or cloth painting. In addition to replicas, there are also 'natural' footprints, believed to have been left by a buddha—not only Sākyamuni, but also his three predecessors in this 'Auspicious Aeon.'" (Skilling, 2005, p.9830)
    • ALT1:... that in some Southeast Asian languages, special verbs are used with Buddha images, to express devotion? Source: "Devotion has its own vocabulary. Special terms, often derived from Sanskrit, are used to describe images: one does not buy an image, one rents or reveres it. One does not take it home: one invites it into one’s house. ... Venerated images are addressed directly, in the second person, with kinship terms identical to those used for revered monks, such as 'Great Father.'" (Skilling, 2005, p.9830)
    • ALT2:... that out of devotion, more Buddhists than ever go on pilgrimage to Bodh Gayā in India? Source: "The most important of these has always been Bodh Gayā; it drew pilgrims from all over the Buddhist world in ancient times and now does so again, on a far larger scale than ever before."(Gombrich 2006, p.123)

  • Impressive work. This was improved to GA status within the required timeframe. Although this was reviewed for GA quality, I double-checked and found no copyright violations or glaring neutrality concerns. The original hook is my personal choice; however, all three are interesting and appropriately sourced. The QPQ is completed and listed above.
