Article is new enough (created 10/6) and long enough (over 6,000 characters). The article appears to satisfy core policies (neutral, cites sources with inline citations, spot-checking turns up no evidence of copyright violations or plagiarism). Hook is short enough and interesting. QPQ completed. No photo used with hook. The only small issue that I think needs to be fixed is to say he was "the first professor at what today is Indiana University" or something along those lines. The article uses such phrasing and notes that the institution was called the Indiana State Seminary when Hall taught there. It didn't become IU until later. Cbl62 (talk) 00:03, 8 October 2012 (UTC)

- Why wasn't I notified before? Regarding his title, he's typically called an instructor or a teacher, except informally; basically, the sources will say something like "he was the first professor at IU" in a summary bit and then consistently call him an instructor or a teacher, just as they'll always refer to the institution as the State Seminary throughout the body of the text. Regarding Cbl62's edit summary about his title, I'll perhaps not be able to respond for a day or two; I have an absolutely horrid Internet connection (it takes over a minute to load most pages, and many don't load at all), so I can't assume that I'll be able to check these sources today. I'll definitely give you a more solid response as soon as possible, which at latest should be when I return from my out-of-state trip in a couple days. My OR makes me guess that he didn't have a single specific title, since sources will use different terms; that's why I've switched back and forth between titles. - Nyttend -- Regarding your question, it's my assumption that DYK regulars put their nomination templates on their watchlist so that separate notice isn't needed. My issue was not with the title but just to add clarification ... "the first professor at what today is Indiana University". - No firm objections if we add your proposal to the hook. However, the sources I've consulted often refer to him as being the first IU professor, largely (as far as I can tell) because the Indiana State Seminary/Indiana College (both names were sometimes used) is the same institution, and IU's organic history begins with the establishment of the College/State Seminary. It's vaguely like saying that Hubert Maga was the first president of Benin, although the country was named Dahomey when he was in power. Nyttend (talk) 14:30, 25 October 2012 (UTC)
