Hook eligibility:

QPQ: No - Not done
Overall: QPQ might be needed as you have 9 but not sure how to validated this against how many you have submitted (never understood this check). I did not find the hook interesting as I do not thing people know Benz or Phats & Small. I think a hook around Eurovision will be more interesting. I have some doubts about notability so please try to address it, I might be missing something here FuzzyMagma (talk) 11:09, 6 May 2023 (UTC)

Thompson meets WP:MUSICBIO#C6, as both Benz and Phats & Small are notable. You need QPQs for the sixth DYK you nominate onwards; I like to do mine in batches. (I also don't tend to bother with that tool, I do my own research into talk pages and the like.) I propose the following:
ALT1: ... that the Benz and Phats & Small singer Anthony Benedict Thompson would later appear on Making Your Mind Up in an attempt to represent the United Kingdom at the Eurovision Song Contest?
It would be brilliant if this could go out on 13 May, as that's the day of the final.--Launchballer 11:41, 6 May 2023 (UTC)
a musician who has been a reasonably prominent member of two or more independently notable ensembles, I do not think Tony was a member of Phats & Small. I copied this discussion over to the page talk, see Talk:Anthony Benedict Thompson#Notability, so let's continue there. Once it is resoved I will come back and amend the status
I like ALT1 but did a small change below and second the 13 May request.
ALT2: ... that Anthony Benedict Thompson would later appear on Making Your Mind Up in an attempt to represent the UK at the Eurovision? FuzzyMagma (talk) 12:04, 6 May 2023 (UTC)
This nomination is transcluded on the talk page, no need for it to appear twice. I'm quite certain that he was for their second album, but if you're not happy, you're welcome to send it to AfD.--Launchballer 12:06, 6 May 2023 (UTC)
I agree if someone sang on most tracks in Phats & Small’s second album, This Time Around, he can be considered a memeber + in the DISC itself his picture is included (he is the guy in the centre right?). I removed the tag.
Regardelss, I really do not think questioning notability warrant deletion.
ALT2 is Good to go, ideally for the 13 of May FuzzyMagma (talk) 12:33, 6 May 2023 (UTC)
Forgot to add the QPQ, it's Template:Did you know nominations/Powell Marsh Wildlife Area.--Launchballer 22:16, 6 May 2023 (UTC)

@Launchballer and FuzzyMagma: this might just be that i'm completely disinterested in Eurovision, but now that we're well past the 13th of May, I'm really not sure what makes this hook interesting. Being a contestant on a regular show for its regular purpose isn't very unusual or intriguing, in my opinion. Could another hook be found? theleekycauldron (talkcontribs) (she/her) 21:46, 5 June 2023 (UTC)

With respect, the Eurovision Song Contest is regularly watched by hundreds of millions of viewers. It is the biggest programme in Europe. That hook is very likely to be interesting to a broader audience. I mean, we could go with ALT3: ... that B.I.G. Ben invited Darkboy to join Benz after seeing him walking down the street?--Launchballer 07:19, 6 June 2023 (UTC)
Eurovision is massive! The WP about the 2023 event was no. 4 at top 25. I am still keen on having the previous hook.
as for AlT3 it is not included in the article of Anthony and I will need a reference for that too. FuzzyMagma (talk) 10:38, 6 June 2023 (UTC)
Thing is, the fact that a show is popular doesn't negate the fact that a dude with a snappy nickname unsuccessfully attempting to get on said show through usual channels does not exactly invite further investigation. theleekycauldron (talkcontribs) (she/her) 23:15, 18 June 2023 (UTC)
ALT3 is now in the article.--Launchballer 15:54, 19 June 2023 (UTC)
@Launchballer: thanks for updating the article but I am not able to verify the information, and not sure how to proceed, does WP:good faith applies here?
I am still convinced ALT4 is an interesting hook and I kinda hate to say this but @Theleekycauldron: you changed your opposition from "Being a contestant on a regular show ..." to acknowledging that the show is in fact popular but voicing disinterest for another reason. Clearly this show is not your cup to tea but that should not be the criteria for "interesting". I wonder how this kind of disagreements are normally solved. FuzzyMagma (talk) 17:16, 19 June 2023 (UTC)
Of course Eurovision is popular, FuzzyMagma, that just doesn't make things interesting by proxy. If you want to look through the bottom of every DYK stats page, you'll find plenty of songs by various ultra-popular whose hooks still flopped. My reasoning is the same: there's nothing unusual about this hook. theleekycauldron (talkcontribs) (she/her) 17:42, 19 June 2023 (UTC)
I had an ultra-quirky hook do really well about a week ago for On & on (piri & tommy song) which used one of its lyrics. It got over 20,000 views and is (so far) the second-most viewed non-image hook this month, so it's obviously interesting. I therefore propose the following: ALT5: ... "Boom Rock Soul"?--Launchballer 17:53, 19 June 2023 (UTC)
ALT5 is so interesting that I read the article for the 5th time lol .. works for me FuzzyMagma (talk) 18:59, 19 June 2023 (UTC)

ALT5 very unlikely to fly per recent discussion on WT:DYK. I propose the following instead:

18:10.--Launchballer 09:34, 1 July 2023 (UTC)
ALT7 and ALT8, and I checked the citations for both. ALT6 doesn't seem that interesting to me. Personally I also support ALT2, which was approved above. Edge3 (talk) 14:00, 4 July 2023 (UTC)
