• 周济长期致力于优化设计、CAD、数控和CIMS技术的研究和工程应用，取得了创造性的成果，并有显著的应用成效。提出并组织实施适合国情的推广应用CAD／CAM的技术路线，提出并实现了单调性分析优化、数控加工直接插补等算法理论，主持开发出优化设计、机械CAD等一系列软件产品及华中I型数控系统，应用于1000余家工业企业，产品销售值达亿余元，取得了巨大的经济和社会效益。先后获国家科技进步三等奖4项，省部级科技进步奖14项，出版著作11本，发表论文200余篇。周济长期从事机械设计教学和研究生培养工作，为工程技术人员的继续教育和技术培训开展了大量工作。鉴于华中理工大学CIMS中心做出的杰出成绩，国际制造工程师协会经过严格的考核和筛选，将1999年“大学领先奖”颁发给华中理工大学。
• 在华中科技大学主政期间，周济积极推行“教育产业化”措施。周济推行的“教育产业化”与目前被广泛指责的通过“教育产业化”大不相同，他提倡的是斯坦福大学模式的教育产业化，提倡教研产相结合，鼓励把科研成果转化为生产力，主动推动社会经济发展。在这种思想的引导下，华中科技大学成绩卓著，比如“华中数控”“华工科技”等华工系企业得到了社会的广泛认同。胡锦涛等国家领导人先后到华中科技大学科技园视察“正源光子”等高技术公司。而周济推动的“武汉.中国光谷”，亦使华中科技大学所在地区，从郊区跃升为武汉经济的重点地带，成为推动武汉经济发展的巨大引擎。

In a BBS of a tertiary education institution, the incident of female student of Nanjing Normal University accompanying to dance became the reason of Zhou Ji to block the BBS. But it was also reported that in the field of ideology, Zhou Ji basically has no right to voice up. It is said that this was at first led by the Propaganda Department, documents were originally by the Propaganda Department, Ministry of Public Security and the Ministry of Education, but at the end when it was to be presented there was only the Ministry of Education. Once it was reported that the incidence started from when the leaders of the Ministry of Education came to the Nanjing Normal University, the university grouped some female students to accompany these officers to dance. One of the girls exposed the mobile phone number of one of those officers given to her in the BBS of the university. Later some claimed that the mobile phone number belonged to Zhou Ji. But it was later found to be a rumour,

Someone thinks that the rumour is related to the internal rivalry of the Communist Party.
