I changed the sentence "He uses it in future Final Fantasy games regardless." to "Gilgamesh uses the Zantetsuken in other Final Fantasy games as well." because in Final Fantasy VI Gilgamesh's attack is called "Shen-Zantetsuken" after he replaces Odin in your esper list. This just makes the page a tad more accurate.

Zantetsuken is more of an ability than a weapon (though it does appeare as a sword in Final Fantasy VI. Im against merging this. Zane1221 18:52, 30 March 2007 (UTC)Zane1221

Not only shouldn't this be merged into "FF weapons", it should be expanded beyond the FF definition. Swords named Zantetsuken appear in more than just the FF games (for example, Lupin III and Soul Blazer both have weapons by that name). In fact, the name applies to swords made by real-life swordsmith Yasuhiro Kobayashi, who forged swords which really could cut iron (and were thus called "Zantetsuken"). Therefore it's the equivalent of "Excalibur" or "Masamune" (both of which have appeared in FF games, but neither of which is originally from FF). - Wrassedragon 07:17, 25 July 2007 (UTC)

I agree, Zantetsuken is not just something from Final Fantasy; it is a sort of historical sword/term used in japanese culture in general. And, being the Metal Slug fan I am, I also feel that I have to mention that Zantatsuken is a power up item in Metal Slug 6 for your combat knife.

Indeed, Zantetsuken should have its own article. To have it link to a Final Fantasy article that doesn't even mention "Zantetsuken" once is ridiculous. I recall an older Zantetsuken article mentioning that it literally translates to something like "Steel-cutting sword", and it also noted some various sources that have made reference to it or otherwise had Zantetsuken involved (i.e. Lupin III, Odin's sword from Final Fantasy).67.225.9.163 (talk) 04:53, 8 March 2008 (UTC)

The state of this page doesn't appear to have improved since 2008, as it now redirects to Goemon Ishikawa XIII. The same issue persists, while Zantetsuken is the name of Goemon's sword, and why I looked up the term, I don't consider it to be the origin nor meaning. Others such as Wrassedragon have provided relevant information above, and I believe the issue comes down to finding suitable sources and attention, compared to the abundance of cultural references that don't need them. 173.17.52.187 (talk) 12:34, 18 October 2020 (UTC)
