NPOV tag[edit]

The tag is placed because whether he was Sui's last emperor is more than debatable. --Nlu (talk) 04:24, 11 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Emperor Gong of SuiYang You – Per WP:NATURAL since his brother Yang Tong was also an "Emperor Gong of Sui". From a historical standpoint, Yang You was only a puppet emperor/rebel figurehead (he was installed by the rebel Li Yuan) who "ruled" over only a small portion of the empire when the real emperor Emperor Yang of Sui was still alive and reigning. The Book of Sui lists him as an emperor to justify Li Yuan's usurpation (he passed the Mandate of Heaven to Li Yuan), but many modern historians do not consider him an emperor, e.g. [1] or The Cambridge History of China which makes no mention of him in the "Sui Dynasty" chapter. It's more helpful, in my view, to call this teenager by his personal name like Yang Tong. Timmyshin (talk) 23:35, 25 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support, for reasons that Timmyshin stated. (I will disclose that my own personal opinion is that we should do away with all "Emperor X of Y" naming conventions, but I tend to think that even if we don't have a consensus to do so, doing so on borderline cases is at least helpful.) --Nlu (talk) 00:45, 26 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support per nom. -- Iazyges Consermonor Opus meum 04:39, 29 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support - Not commonly recognized as an emperor; personal name is more appropriate in this case. -Zanhe (talk) 17:40, 1 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
