Notability[edit]

"The topic of this article may not meet Wikipedia's notability guidelines for products and services. (September 2011)" I for one read this article with interest. I think it is useful. GangofOne (talk) 05:36, 10 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I also use xpra. There is the Phoronix article as referenced by the page but it is pretty brief. Searching books I've so far have only found brief mentions such as a brief one line mention in chapter 4 of "Remote Pairing" ISBN 9781680504569. ( Other xpra search results that I've seen in books appear to be different things. ) I get no hits on the term in bing news searches. Google news returns an article at Hackaday [1] that seems to go a little deeper, not that familiar with that source though and a mention on tech radar when describing the Subgraph distro [2]. Other search results were similar to searching books, either a different xpra ( often an acronym or part of one ) and mentions in reader comment sections below articles. When I hand searched some tech news sites that I'm familiar with, I also only see see mentions in comments. WinSwitch a related piece of software that wraps xpra, NX and vnc might also be worthing searching for to find sources. PaleAqua (talk) 05:26, 28 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Please be cautious in gauging notability. This software addresses a core deficiency in X11 having to do with application portability and has been a subject of interest in academic and trade papers, even if other approaches such as VNC have garnered more attention in the popular press. Someone still needs to do the work of finding these sources, of course, but notability comes in different forms. Software doesn't have to be in the New York Times to be notable.
