Beeching closure[edit]

This station belongs in the category "Beeching closures in England" as it was (1) listed in the Beeching report (p. 121) and (2) closed in 1968, i.e. in the years following the report's publication. It's important to distinguish between, on the one hand, the decision to close individual stations on the line (which did feature in the report) and, on the other hand, the decision to withdraw passenger services on the line (which did not feature in the report). Pictures[edit]

Station site in March 2014

Nearly all the pics on the page are both interesting and add information, except one: 'Station site in March 2014'. It could be anywhere. Compare with 'Platform remains in March 2014', which is 'bi&ai': one can see immediately that only the platform edge remains and that there are houses where one might expect a station building. Additionally the former pic seems to me to be in the wrong context whereas the latter is just right. Does anyone else agree that the 'Station site' pic should go? --John Maynard Friedman (talk) 14:33, 27 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Quite right. Now removed. Lamberhurst (talk) 15:28, 27 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Service pattern unclear[edit]

I don't have time to check the source but I suggest it would be clearer if it showed the trains calling rather than the present style which is more appropriate to a terminus station. So Oxford <-> MKC, Oxford <-> Bedford, MKC <-> Marylebone. Anyone got time before next week? --John Maynard Friedman (talk) 17:00, 14 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

How to handle a case of two stations a mile and thirty years apart[edit]

In about 18 months' time, we will need to solve the problem of having two stations about a mile apart that share the same name but little else. There is a discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject UK Railways#How to handle cases of new station on new site, reusing name of station closed >30 years ago on how best to handle the issue. Contributions are welcome. 𝕁𝕄𝔽 (talk) 22:04, 31 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

To save everyone else searching, that discussion was archived here. The consensus as I understand it is that, when the new station is open (or reasonably close thereoto), we change the infobox to show the new station [picture, someone, please] and give two lines at the platform= giving 2 for the new and 1 for the old. AFAIK, we have at least another six months. The current infobox pic then goes down to the history section. --𝕁𝕄𝔽 (talk) 22:30, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
