Population[edit]

  • Winchelsea claims to be the smallest town in Britain to have its own mayor - interesting - so what is the size of the local population then? 80.42.43.192 13:49, 13 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Talking to locals the answer seems to be somewhere between four and five hundred, but as so many houses are second or holiday homes the actual permanent residential occupation appears to be approx 250. NewInn 09:52, 22 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The Local Action Plan calculated the number of residents precisely in 2006. There are 278 houses and 585 adults, of which about 21% are second home-owners. The number of voters in the May 2007 local government election was 411. [Winchelsea Community Office] —Preceding unsigned comment added by 172.206.239.72 (talk) 16:16, 28 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Does Winchelsea have slowest broadband in England?[edit]

Not quite correct! The survey by Uswitch was of the Winchelsea postcode TN36. This is much wider than Winchelsea town. The Winchelsea name is attached to TN36 because that used to be the name for the District Council electoral ward covered by TN36. But that is now called Eastern Rother (since 2007). A similar survey on online car insurance claims labelled Winchelsea as the car crime capital of England. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Winchelseatown (talkcontribs) 16:36, 30 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Market town status?[edit]

Does Winchelsea hold formal "market town" status through Royal Charter to justify inclusion in Category:Market towns in East Sussex? There is no mention in the article nor current market I can find, although it is implied by some online references, e.g. History of Winchelsea.
