Article issues[edit]

A recent edit reverted the notability tag on this article. I think that the notability of this article is questionable, given that the subject of the article's primary source of notability was that he was rescued by a person who won the Medal of Honor.

I am also disturbed by the self-promotion aspect of this article. The creator of this article is mentioned prominently in this article, and a photograph of him illustrates the article. It has been also edited by his son, who just removed the notability tag. I have placed a "COI" tag on this article. Both editors have self-identified as father and son, so I'm not outing anybody.

Almost half of the article is related directly to the creator of the article. That is not only a blatant COI, but is a serious NPOV issue. The article is as much about Antonio Santiago and his post-war efforts as it is about Kouts.

The article really should be merged with the article on the Medal of Honor winner, and I shall so propose. ScottyBerg (talk) 12:47, 20 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Merger[edit]

This article is about a military serviceman who was rescued by David M. Gonzales. Gonzales is notable, Kouts is not. This minor wartime incident is exhaustively covered by the Gonzales article, which also contains a substantial discussion of the postwar events in which the creator of this article played a substantial role. That comprises a substantial portion of this article, and I think Wikipedia readers can already get the information they need in the other article. If anything is missing from the Gonzales article, it can be added from this one. ScottyBerg (talk) 13:05, 20 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The merge is the correct step to take. Mr. Kouts was surely a nice guy, but not notable in terms of Wikipedia notability. This article would have not been created if he had never personally met the Wikipedia editor that created it.
The article's content is about the wars and battles he was involved, but his role on them was not outstanding, judging by the lack of interest from publications about these battles to mention Mr. Kouts role.
The search for family saga is an event being overblown by one of its participants, that happens to be the article's author.
Mr. Kouts deserves at most a mention on the David M. Gonzales. But even there, we should be careful not to make the event seem more that what it was. Mr. Gonzales seems an accomplished man, and this whole search for family episode is of disputable relevance of his biography. --Damiens.rf 21:15, 26 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The real issue here

O.K. let's talk about the real issue here. This not about the "William Walter Kouts" article as so much as it is about my father "Antonio Santiago" being mentioned in the article and what seems as your persecution of him.

I don't know what it is that you have against my father that has driven you to go after him in everyway possible. First you depleted his Wikipedia biography (Tony Santiago) by deleting content and references, then once you had a depleted worthless article you nominated it for deletion. As expected the depleted version, not the original, was deleted. Then you removed links to his name from every article. You went and cropped every image which he uploaded and in which my father is pictured, removing him and any mention of him as if in an agenda. You even nominated a personal "User page” of his, which as expected was also deleted. It seems as if anything or any where my father is mentioned you pop up and complain.

Please stop the hounding and leave my father out of this and any other conversation. The issue here should be the merging of this article, as simple as that. My father has never done anything to anyone including you. My father recently suffered from heart failure and under went surgery because of all the stress he has been under, isn't that enough? Does it bother you that my father's articles in Wikipedia have helped many people or that he has received recognitions and is possibly the only person to be recognized by a government for his contributions to Wikipedia? If so then I feel sorry for you, if not, then leave him alone and stop bringing him up in your conversations. Thank you, Antonio Martin (talk) 20:15, 20 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
