I'll get his birth/death dates soon Helo254 19:40, 26 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Actually that may be more impossible than I thought Helo254 00:42, 3 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Removed uncited superlative (first) claim[edit]

I have removed the following text:

inventor of the first underwater cable ferry in the early 1900s

I have done this because (a) it is uncited and (b) there are many cable ferries that clearly predate the early 1900s. See, for example, the WP article on King Harry Ferry, which is known to have operated as a submerged chain ferry since 1888. It is not entirely clear what the words submerged and underwater means in the above sentences, but common sense suggests they mean the cables or chains are normally underwater. The terms chain ferry and cable ferry seem to be culturally specific, with UK english using chain ferry and new world english using cable ferry, rather than a strict reference to the actual nature of the piece of string used. I would therefore submit that there isn't much difference between a submerged chain ferry and an underwater cable ferry.

It may be that William's ferry was in some way a new subtype, but without a cite it isn't possible to verify this and clarify the new subtype. So the only option is to expunge. -- Starbois (talk) 15:02, 11 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
