Year of birth[edit]

The year of birth - 1784 - is plainly wrong, given that the article later lists his employment as a writer (clerk) at the East India Company in 1765. Assuming he took on this role upon leaving education (aged 16, maybe?), his year of birth would be c. 1749. Paul W (talk) 12:57, 4 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I have found a photograph (here) of a graveyard memorial to Petrie which suggests he was 69 when he died, which suggests his year of birth was around 1747. Paul W (talk) 13:15, 4 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
