The Cousteau quote is incorrect and the result of small town talk and poor research, it appears in several other references on the internet. In 1980 the Calypso attended on the Great Lakes. Things did not go well they lost a diver on the lower Lakes. Jacque Cousteau was not on the Calypso when in visited Thunder Bay and subsequently the Gunilda shipwreck site near Rossport Ontario. At the Rossport dock they met diver Gerry Buchannan and dive buddies who were diving the site. They then made a dive on the Gunilda with the submarine and filmed the site. The press release that followed was interesting. An account of Calypso discovering the Gunilda. This may have been one of the Calypso’s less challenging discovers as by following the yellow rope down the wreck was tied to it that dives had been using for a down line for some years. As I understand it the original comment on the site was made by Falco to diver Ryan LeBlanc among others. When asked what he thought of the ship he said it was number one and lifted one finger as he spoke to make the point. There was however a difference in language and that is a translated version of the conversation. The local Rossport residence have retold the story many times and it is often represented as a direct quote from Jacque Cousteau who has never been there. Note: His birth year seems incorrect as he is said to be the son of Laura Osborne who died or was divorced before 1853 when his father remarried. Handicapper (talk) 14:13, 1 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
