Untitled[edit]

The writers of this article (and perhaps this is true of other articles on slavery) have confused the terms abolition (i.e. abolition of the trans-Atlantic slave trade), with the emancipation of slaves. The issue in Channing's time was very much that of emancipation, since the slave trade had officially ceased. Whilst in England, the two subjects were discussed simultaneously, and the same ethic used for both. In the West Indies and America, the two topics were markedly different, with many slave owners abhorring the kidnap and transportation of slaves, whilst insisting that the practice of 'owning' enslaved workers should be continued.

Wikipedia should also consider the political correctness of language. Words such as 'Negro', are thought derogatory and deeply offensive to many people, when used in an non-essential context or non-familial context. It is difficult to define a policy for word usage, particularly when public impressions are in a state of flux. However, phrases such as 'enslaved person' should be used instead of the word 'slave' whenever the context allows. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Katbun (talkcontribs) 10:13, 2 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I made a minor edit concerning the theology section. The previous statement said "Even at the end of his life he adhered to the non-Arian belief in the preexistence of Christ". But Arius very much believed in the pre-existence of Christ. This is one of the primary differences between Arian and Socinian Unitarian Christology. I changed the line to "non-Socinian belief" as a result. DesScorp (talk) 19:32, 22 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
