Untitled

I removed Rader from "Famous" alumni of WSU as he is more infamous than famous. And, quite frankly, Rader isn't that famous and listing his name along with other famous WSU alumni is more of an insult to his victims if anything. Elrosewood 18:50, 4 February 2006 (UTC)

I put him back on. Infamous people are still famous, and BTK is in every criminology textbook written since the 1970s. It doesn't insult BTK's victims to list him here, unless you would like to delete him from wikipedia entirely. - Richardcavell 07:31, 22 February 2006 (UTC)

Calling Wichita a mid sized city is clearly an opinion. The city proper has slightly more people than St. Louis, which is clearly a large city. Not sure how the MSA stacks up.Kenallen 06:49, 19 January 2007 (UTC)

Tom Otterness Controversy

Shouldn't there be some mention of the $450,000 (plus $150,000 "shipping costs") being taken from student fees to buy art from someone with a past like this?

From his Wiki: Journalist Gary Indiana criticized Otterness for an independent work done while part of the East Village art scene in the mid-eighties called "Shot Dog Piece", in which Otterness "adopted a dog and then shot it to death for the fun of recording his infantile, sadistic depravity on film."[3] When a candidate for student government president at Wichita State University learned of this act, Wichita State began questioning a USD$450,000 commission, which would cost an additional USD$150,000 for shipping, however, at present it looks as if the project continued may as planned.[4] Otterness commented that "In 1977, I was a young artist having a very rough time. I had anger at myself and at the world. What I did was symbolic of how I was feeling internally and it is something I would never do today."[5] It should be noted that although the event happened in the "70's" he showed the film in the mid-eighties as referenced in the Gary Indiana quote. The validity of the apology comes into question when it appears he was still willing to show the piece a decade later.

Antoine Carr

I added NBA players Cliff Levingston and Antoine Carr to the famous alumni. I hope that someone can add an entry for Carr; I was surprised that Levingston had one and he didn't. Phillip was the heart and soul of the team during the years he played at WSU, and he had a longer NBA career than levingston. Longer than X, too, I believe.

Possible Wichita State Shockers page

I have created a Wichita State Shockers men's basketball team wiki page. I linked it in this page, within the athletics section of this article. The men's basketball wiki page is incomplete, but complete enough to present and use to a degree. Content and sources

This article is somewhat dry by containing lists and references are missing from the other sections. I know they exist specifically for things regarding history directly from the WSU website. Add New article for National Institute for Aviation Research

A new article should be added for National Institute for Aviation Research. This is a research laboratory at the university which is ranked third for aerospace engineering.--Jax 0677 (talk) 16:38, 13 February 2011 (UTC)

Add New Pictures and Sections

This article lacks pictures, guess we need some new photos regarding Wichita State University Campus. And further improve the article by laying more emphasis over, Campus information and affiliated colleges. A detailed new section over research and a new section about Student Life. Gallery section confusion

Hi. Someone vandalized your page by substituting a "first pizza hut" image, instead of the Ulrich museum. I've removed the pizza hut image, and just added a minimal link to the Ulrich museum site. Someone with an image of the museum might like to add it. Mozzy66 (talk) 04:28, 2 July 2011 (UTC)

External Link section

Removed link per WP:EL, also "However, just because someone is making a point does not mean that they are disrupting Wikipedia to illustrate that point.", per WP:POINT.

You need to justify why WP:EL applies to one but not the other, before restoring the link that I removed.

You've begun an edit war to remove a link that has been in the article without objection for over 15 (!) years...? The burden is on you to convince us that this link - a link that is present in nearly every other article about a U.S. college or university - doesn't belong in this article. Revert your edit to the status quo until there you have established that there is a new, changed consensus. ElKevbo (talk) 04:32, 12 July 2022 (UTC)
1) Just because content was in an article for a long time, it doesn't automatically mean it is correct to keep it. 2) Just because no one questioned content in the past, it doesn't automatically invalidate removal of it. 3) Just because numerous other articles contain similar links, it doesn't automatically validate all of them as being correct either. 4) Without using time and # of articles, you still need to justify why the map link must be deleted per WP:EL, but the athletics link must not be deleted per WP:EL, because this is the root issue. • Sbmeirow • Talk • 05:14, 14 July 2022 (UTC)
None of that excuses your edit warring; revert your edit if you want to convince us that you're acting in good faith. You do not own this article and you do not get to impose your version of the article on us simply by virtue of being more willing to edit war.
You don't get to dictate what is valid in this discussion. The inclusion of these links across thousands of articles for over a 15 years demonstrates a clear consensus among editors that these links are appropriate. If you want to argue that the consensus has changed then you need to start that discussion in good faith and in a more appropriate venue e.g., WP:ELN. If you want to argue that the existing consensus is wrong and should be changed, you need to start that discussion in good faith and in a more appropriate venue e.g., WT:UNI.   • Most, if not every, American university article include the athletics website. The only issue I saw here was that it said “Official athletics website”, which per WP:OFFICIAL, there can only be one “official” website on an article… which is the university website. So my !vote is to keep the link. Corky 12:40, 12 July 2022 (UTC)
https://www.wichita.edu/ is the official link for "Wichita State University" article, not https://goshockers.com/ and since WP:ELOFFICIAL states "Normally, only one official link is included". Getting back to your logic, it would mean that since https://www.wichita.edu/about/maps_directions.php is the "official" webpage for the map, then this link should be included in "Wichita State University" article for the same reason as the athletics link. • Sbmeirow • Talk • 05:14, 14 July 2022 (UTC)
The sentence that follows what you've quoted is critical: "If the subject of the article has more than one official website, then more than one link may be appropriate, under a very few limited circumstances." The community has apparently decided that this is one of those circumstances. Like it or not, college athletics in the U.S. is really important for many people, so much so that many editors believe it appropriate enough to include this one additional link in articles. We don't have to like that opinion or agree with it - I do not - but we do need to respect consensus until and unless it can be proven to have changed. ElKevbo (talk) 10:48, 14 July 2022 (UTC)
  • I don't endorse the edit warring, but I do think Sbmeirow is right to want to remove the link. The athletics website is just a subsite of the university's main website, so if we're linking to the main website, WP:EL (which supersedes any local consensus) would have us omit the subsite. Removing it comports with WP:UNIGUIDE and with the precedent at our recent FA. {{u|Sdkb}} talk 03:13, 16 July 2022 (UTC)
These links are in thousands of articles and in some cases have been present without objection for over a decade. There is clearly implicit consensus for these links. If you would like to change that consensus or determine if it has changed then I strongly encourage you to open an RfC. ElKevbo (talk) 03:24, 16 July 2022 (UTC)
