Waiting To Exhale soundtrack

Why is the soundtrack to Waiting to Exhale listed as a WH album? She contributes only 3 songs to the album so I dont think it should be listed as one of her albums. With something like The Bodyguard, the album is absolutely associated with Whitney - she is the reason it sold 30 plus million. But that isnt the case with Waiting to Exhale. There were lots of high profile singles released from it...Rimmers 18:59, 30 April 2006 (UTC)

My god, Mariah fans, stop it! Only you care about it! Whitney contributed 3 songs, she was Executive Producer of the album, she was main actress in the movie! Still not enough Why is the soundtrack to Waiting to Exhale listed as a WH album?

It should be a Whitney Houston album because she was asked by Babyface to do the album and originally wanted her to the whole album. She declined saying it should be array of female artists and should be considered a WH album because it was released through her record label Arista.

Wait it would be appropriate to list it under "Soundtracks" and I don't know why it's not listed under their. Heegoop, 27 April 2006 (UTC)

Whitney's official site claim the Bodyguard sold 42 million and Waiting to exhale sold 13 million. it's right here: http://www.whitneyhouston.com/. This is the new and updated site.

Exxagerated sales

Seriously, this page needs some revamping. Somebody decided to boost sales of certain albums (Whitney Houston/The Bodyguard Soundtrack, etc.).

Shouldn't this be merged with the Whitney Houston article? Why do we need a separate page for her discography?

One Wish

There is alot of changing of the one wish: the holiday album from studio to holiday and vise versa. I think it's fair to say that it is not a studio album. It says it in the title One Wish: The HOLIDAY album. But even though on the page it remains that is a holiday album, on the I Look To You article it says it is her 7th studio album, meaning that whoever wrote the article regards one wish as a studio when it is clearly not, it is her 6th, so shouldn't it say I Look To You is her 6th?

One Wish is a studio album according to Billboard, Allmusic, and MTV. It is like Mariah Carey's Merry Christmas and Celine Dion's These Are Special Times, both are studio albums.Bluesatellite (talk) 22:24, 9 December 2009 (UTC)

Christmas albums are indeed studio albums, like Celine, Mariah, Gloria etc, but as One Wish has 2 previously released songs and only 9 new ones it could be classified as a compilation.

OVER 200 MILLION RECORDS ?

Well...over 200 million records sounds really false cause if it is 200 M then she sold more than Mariah and Celine ???? It is public news that The Bodyguard Soundtrack is now the 2nd biggest selling album of all time with 42.000.000 units shipped.

Well, you can't say that Mariah and Celine are the best-selling because of they received WMA (Chopard diamond). This award is given for artist who just sold over 100 MILLION, not for best-selling of whatever.. Elvis reported sold at least 300 million (3x 100 million) but WMA hasn't given the award to him. Madonna, who sold 200 million albums according to IFPI, has not received too. So, my point is don't say that Celine and Mariah are the best-selling just because fake award WMA.Bluesatellite (talk) 22:50, 9 December 2009 (UTC)

Charts wrong?

I just checked out I'm Your baby tonight's page. Canadian Albums Chart on the page says 12 and on the discography page says other number. Which is true? Similarly, Just Whitney... - Did it reach the position of top eighty on Canadian Albums Chart? Could someone provide a source for that too? Novice7 talk 11:41, 18 October 2010 (UTC)

All at once is listed at #99 in the UK. It was expected it would peak there following her death but did it actually end up doing so, or when the final tallies were done did it just miss the top 100?

Proposed split

Hi everyone, so Novice asked me what I thought of splitting the article for a "albums" and "singles" discographies. For anyone who isn't sure about it, check out them for Mariah Carey's albums and singles discos. So I remembered we had a discussion for it when it was time for Carey, and the consensus (5 of us all agreed) to split the page. So this kind of thing needs consensus. Houston I would say has at least 70% of Carey, Dion and Madonnas sales and material so I think its worth discussing. Can you all express if you agree with splitting the article or not?   • Truthfully im neutral as well, the article itself is 73 kilobytes long so in that sense it should be split, but the lead is ridiculously long. Im leaning more towards oppose because of the "Singles certifications and sales" section could easily be merged into singles section thus removing much of the articles size.   • I don't think that it needs to be split. It clocks in at just over 70k, which isn't that big. I prefer one centralised discography unless it is getting ridiculously big.   • The only thing I'd like to remind you of is that the discography isn't really developed. I mean, most of the singles certifications aren't present, and almost no info about the singles is listed in the lead.   • Oppose at least for now. I think the albums discography would be very thin indeed. What is much more a urgently needed is a clean-up of the article as it is. The intro text needs English corrections and trimming, the tables need styling (chart order, column order and mark-up per WP:DISCOGSTYLE), the selection of charts needs revisiting, the refs for sales and certs need hard checking and formatting, and the lists of certs need to be looked at. Maybe when the page is ship-shape, we'll look at it and decide for a split, as suggested by Adabow above, but right now it's not necessary. — JohnFromPinckney (talk) 12:01, 25 November 2010 (UTC)
  • Comment The reasons that I asked Nathan for an opinion to split the discography:
    • 1. The page may be a little long. Splitting may reduce the size of the page.
    • 2. In its current state, it may become difficult to edit or cleanup the article. By splitting the article, the albums and singles can be edited and any significant information (including singles information and albums information) may be added.

  • Neutral, as someone pointed out above, it is hard to see because the discog is not HQ now such as certs not in the table and other things.   • Oppose. In some cases when an artist possesses annoyingly large catalog like Elvis Presley for example, splitting albums and singles could be a logical approach. But in the case of Houston, it's unnecessary. Similarly, many other discographies the albums and singles of which are currently split never needed a split. By the way, two more important issues need to be addressed for Houston's discography. 1) the number of the certifications should be trimmed as Belgium, Brazil, Japan, Italy, Poland Russia do not have chart peaks yet the certifications of all of those markets are posted here and there for albums. 2) The markets are not placed in an alphabetical order for peaks.--Harout72 (talk) 17:55, 25 November 2010 (UTC)

Once this article has a proper introduction/lead section and has verified singles/album positions no decision should be made.   • Neutral (leaning towards oppose) & Suggestion that each section be properly delineated and perhaps drop the less "notable" (sorry, cant think of a better word - take the word on it's intent please) stuff into collapsible tables if page clutter or length is at issue. Next clean-up steps

It's not as though I have the energy or time to do this myself right now, but I thought I'd note my suggestions for what (I think) needs doing here:

  1. Decide what chart peaks need to be shown in the article's tables. Keep in mind DISCOGSTYLE's 10-chart max. recommendation.
  2. Find sources for the columns' peaks not yet present.
  3. Delete unneeded columns, rearrange what's left, add missing columns. How this gets done and in what order depends on what needs adding and deleting. At the end, the columns should be US (home country) first followed by the others in alpha order.
  4. For those charts whose peaks we aren't showing, remove the sales and certs.

We currently show Brazil, Japan, EU, Polish, and Russian certs, but those charts' peaks aren't given. Being such large markets, Japan and Brazil might well deserve inclusion, but I know that Brazilian peaks are hard to get reference citations for.

I'll be (sort of) glad to do the rearranging eventually if nobody has gotten to it first, but I don't anticipate myself finding a bunch of refs and adding new columns. If I come back in a month and it still looks about the same as it does now, I'll probably re-sort the columns and delete the extra certs. should there be an unreleased songs list? I can think of a few right off the top of my head:

  • "Take Me to Your Heart" (1984 demo)
  • "I'm Every Woman" (longer version)
  • "I Look to You" (2006 original demo version)
  • "It'll Be Okay" (2007 unreleased duet with Ray J)

Singles side two

Wouldn't it be nice to mention the side two track of the singles? I suggest this because the song "Moment of Truth" was not released on any albums, but it was for instance released as side two on the single "I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me)" in 1987. I think it definitely belongs in a complete discography.

Whitney Houston Discography Edit

Polite message... I recently did a minor edit to Whitney Houston's Discography and included back-up references to this edit. I felt that the edit was informative and necessary, but as expected this edit was removed. I could re-edit and I am well within my rights to do so, but that would not solve the issue. I provided a back-up reference to the edit as requested, so the edit would not need to be removed, but it's removed anyway with reference or no reference.

I just would like to point out to the person who has removed my referenced edit, that I am well within my right to make edits to Wikipedia pages, so long as i include references to back up my reason to edit or change.

Wikipedia is surely about making the article as accurate and informative as can be and therefore what is the point of people like myself trying to improve an article, when any referenced information that is added is then as quickly removed.
