Update[edit]

I did a major overhaul (I wasn't logged in, so it's listed as IP address 104.136.33.192). Structured, researched, cited, replaced advert language with neutral POV, etc. Still room for improvement, obviously, but at least now it looks like a proper Wikipedia article. As Kalanithi underwent cancer treatment, he shared his reflections on illness and medicine, authoring essays in The New York Times, The Paris Review and Stanford Medicine, and participating in interviews for media outlets and public forums. He also began work on an autobiographical book of his experiences as a doctor and a patient facing a terminal illness.[1][2][3][4]

I removed the links to the New York Times and The Paris Review main pages, and added links directly to the articles referenced. I added a link to the Stanford Medicine article. Citations to these articles were added to the end of the sentence. GSenko (talk) 03:19, 9 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Style and Genre Section[edit]

This book page would benefit from a style and genre section as recommended on the WikiProject Books page: "describe how the book is written. This can include comments regarding the tone, target audience (academic work, popular science, etc.), organization (chronological, thematic, etc.), style comparisons with other authors/works, comparison to past work by the same author (expansion of previous ideas), or other aspects."

The author originally wrote a couple of articles for publication and after receiving positive feedback embedded those articles into this longer work: The New York Times op-ed, “How long have I got left?” And a special issue article in Stanford medicine, “Before I Go.” I haven't read all the book reviews on this book, but it appears to participate in the literary form of the Bildungsroman, a coming of age story of spiritual development that integrates the study of literature with the study of biology and medicine. The author presents a youthful quest for meaning and purpose in life, against the backdrop of family life, circumstances, and expectations.JECason (talk) 07:18, 27 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
