Spurious claim Basques may have reached New World before Columbus[edit]

This completely unfounded claim has been made since the 16th century, and there is absolutely no evidence for it at all. The cited source (Barkham's 1994 book review) condemns it whole heartedly. Please stop repeating that trash. ST1849 (talk) 17:07, 30 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Please show the evidence you have for your assertion. Barkham's book review doesn't seem to be available online. Do you have privileged access to the review? – Epipelagic (talk) 21:06, 30 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
It's available online. I found it in two places, on the journal's website and on google scholar. You didn't even look, did you? ST1849 (talk) 21:19, 30 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
You mean the lack of evidence for that claim? Or how no expert on the subject believes the Basques reached the New World before Columbus because there's no document anywhere that supports that claim? ST1849 (talk) 21:23, 30 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Here's a link for the first one: https://journals.lib.unb.ca/index.php/NFLDS/issue/view/135 ST1849 (talk) 21:28, 30 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
