Untitled[edit]

The last revision - I'd really like to see a reputable source for this, otherwise I'll revert it. It looks like gossip to me. All surgeons encounter situations like the one described. Sills bend 01:06, 27 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I wrote the last revision. The stories were related to me when I was registrar to the ENT Head and Neck Surgery Department of the Royal Melbourne hospital in 1994 by Mr Rodney Judson FRACS and Mr Michael Long FRACS both of whom are General Surgeons and worked under Weary Dunlop as trainees. I know it's hard to believe that heroes have feet of clay but they do. Ever wonder why he never received any honours from the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons? Simon Purser FRACS ENT Head and Neck Surgeon, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia 1 November 2005

OK - Wikipedia follows the No Original Research rule. I am reverting to the previous edit. Sills bend 03:49, 9 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

POV[edit]

This article has a lot of praising and charged phrases. "a man of such enormous energy"; "He was active in many spheres of endeavour."; "A courageous leader and compassionate doctor,"; "Dunlop defied his captors, gave hope to the sick and eased the anguish of the dying." Evan Seeds (talk) 08:08, 2 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Commands[edit]

The commands information is false and should be changed from "He made the wheels DUNLOP" to the real information.--DestructoTalk to me 02:17, 8 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Diaries[edit]

Why are Weary Dunlop's War Diaries ISBN 0-14-300391-7 not referenced? That is surely the primary source for the years 1942-1945. Dugong.is.good.tucker (talk) 15:41, 12 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Early life[edit]

"Dunlop was the second of one child" Er... what? AuntFlo (talk) 13:19, 20 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Honours[edit]

Surely the omission of "Knight Bachelor" (1969) in this section is a major oversight - as this is the only honour he received which entitled him to the honorific, "Sir". The knighthood of the Order of St John of Jerusalem (KStJ) does not, in Britain or Australia entitle the holder to be called "Sir", and nor, in those same countries, does the Thai knighthood. I have inserted that honour. Also, the OBE (awarded 1947) does not stand for "Order of the British Empire", but for "Officer of the Order of the British Empire". One is not awarded the Order of the British Empire, but a grade within that order. I have corrected that. Finally, his 2nd highest award in the British (and at that time, Australian) system, was Companion of the Order of St Michael and St George (CMG) in 1965. I have added that. Agree. Citations now provided. Actually, one is not even "awarded" a grade of an order, but "appointed" to it. -- Jack of Oz [your turn] 22:58, 25 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
